Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Caught up to Owl House. They need to keep this romance alive for the remainder of this season and the specials or the social media mob will kill them. Good luck with that. Every episode not mentioning it will have the foaming idiots descend.
Fuckers won't even care about the non romance episodes. Do they even know anything about the plot besides lesbain couple?

We're probably a long ways off from a gay protagonist in Western animation. Whether people want to admit it or not, lesbians are just an easier sell and homosexual men still have a major stigma against them.
And it might just be me but I feel a lot of the stigma’s flames are fanned by people in the community. Whenever people point out the huge discrepancy in LGBT rep, they either go quiet or get mad at people getting uppity. When the rare main gay character does show up, they get swept aside by the deluge of lesbians. It’s a bit troubling.
Need we forget one of the most important rules of the woke brigade? IT 👏 IS 👏NEVER👏 ENOUGH. Whatever you do, no matter how much you try to please the woke snowflakes someone, somewhere, will still feel like that what they're doing isn't good enough because it isn't pandering to them specifically.

For example, the Proud Family reboot will have a gay mixed-race couple as some of the primary characters. You'd think that the woke crowd would eat this shit up, but apparently not:
They. Will. Never. Be. Happy. Which is why you shouldn't bend the knee to them in the first place when making content. Make what you want to make, no more, no less. And if they don't like it because it's "queer-baiting/not diverse enough/transphobic/etc."? Throw the saying that they love to use whenever someone complains about woke productions right back at them: "It wasn't made for you, sweaty. :smug: "
>The Proud Family is a BLACK show
Are they forgetting how one of Penny’s friends was white while her rival and her family was Latino?
And I like how they avoided the question of what’s stopping more people from adding more if they don’t like what there is now. It’s one of the reasons I can’t take the cries of representation seriously.

Well, there was Shiro from Voltron reboot. Say what you will, but he was a gay lead who wasn't defined by his sexuality, I'd rather have more characters like him than those who gay screech every 5 minutes. But yeah, lesbians are easier to censor or pass as "gal pals", so there's that.

man, Lumity is getting uncomfortable to watch, how long before it reaches Catradora's level of abuse and possessiveness? Remember all these other friends Luz was supposed to have? I actually liked Eda and her nonbinary boyfriend, at least there was some maturity here.

But of course, people got butthurt because his old boyfriend got killed and his onscreen kiss in the finale was with some rando, because apparently it doesn't count unless it's with someone they actually want to fuck.

Why does this feel so fucking forced....
It feels forced because it has been to a degree. They went all in at full speed and they will regret it because they are now less than half way into this series with a lot of plot to dump and the added anchor of a romance.

There's nothing awful about it but when literally a single other episode that as a side bit has Luz iron out how she feels about Amity before ending up deciding she has to ask her out would have made it infinitely more organic.

Note that the "there's nothing awful" in no way includes the fans. Many of them need alternately hosing down and beating with a hose.

As was already said they chucked a nonbinary character in more clearly with Eda's ex and it was not an utter train wreck while also giving us some reasonably interesting plot advancement. The ability to tell a goods story is there. But it feels there's a more aggressive push with the main character because "progressive." It is still much better than She-Ra but that is a low hurdle to clear.

Oh fuck off do with your "when you hire queer or POC artists to work on queer or PC stories." I work with and have family who are women in their varying decades from 70s downwards and even the 40s lesbian thinks this is daft.

When a decade or two from now and it's "hiring actual hetero writing staff to write hetero stories gives a layer of genuine details and emotion you wouldn't get otherwise" these same idiots will be screaming about oppression and denying they ever posted this claptrap.

It's cute in the same way a puppy is cute, but like you said there's not much nuance to chew on. Maybe that'll change, maybe it won't.

Forgive me if this has been posted already but it seems Superman and Batman aren’t the only ones getting new cartoons. Aquaman: King of Atlantis is animated miniseries made for HBO Max, produced by none other than James Wan himself. Who else is in charge? Well none other than Victor Courtright…the same guy behind ThunderCats Roar. It looks how you’d expect:

How the fuck did this guy get not one but two notable WB IPs to handle?

That's a real bummer about Thea White's passing. Her sweet Scottish accent was the perfect counterbalance to the creepy hilarity of her surroundings (or lack thereof, they are in the middle of nowhere). I hope she finds peace.

Remember Nickelodeon tried to give Spongebob to the gays and I don't think it worked as they thought it would. If you really want to grasp at straws (which is a past time for gay-obsessed freaks) you could count him.

Sucks gay guys aren't seen or heard as much as gay chicks but until media makers can stop making gay guys so flaming the fire department stalks them, they can stay out of the limelight for now.

I agree once you have mega corporations like Disney celebrating pride with you. How exactly can you still claim your oppressed?
As @Vyse Inglebard said, it's NEVER enough. Not to mention it far more profitable to claim you'll fix problems that either don't matter or don't exist anymore. It won't fucking stop until enough damage is done. Don't ask when enough is enough or you'll start fedposting or doomsperging.

Courage The Cowardly Dog was the first introduction to what surrealism and “creepypasta” like humor can do to cartoons. Muriel and Eustace were like the Yin and Yang to Courage, and thus made the cartoon far more iconic for CN than they could have realized.

The unfortunate part is that current day Cartoon Network will never have anything close to that in modern times. Surrealism and humor has taken a step back, and it’s lost all nuance in the process.
That's because today's creators that are given budgets don't want to help kids see the bright side of the dark side. They want them to be as gender confused and miserable as they are. And to fuck each other i hate myself for typing that

Gag me with a spork. They didn't fall in the same trap Korra did, they did an olympic swan dive into it. I assume whatever plot Owl House tried having is fucking gone in favor of masking it's failure in uwu babby lesboos. Harry Potter/Gravity Falls this is not even close to being. If I wanted to see self inserts do nothing but be retardedly gay I'd read Assigned Male.

The episode this happened in was fairly plot heavy, actually. For one thing King's father returned and Eda became a Harpy woman. What that actually means I don't know, but it has implications for the plot at least. I really do need to watch more than the first episode of this thing.

SpongeBob's asexual, and I guess that counts on the spectrum.

I caught an episode of the 12th season of spongebob after I saw a clip of it in my recommendations. I can't speak for the whole season but episodes like this give me hope for the animation industry. Even if I don't chuckle at some jokes the animation and pacing is on the up and up.

"This was supposed to be fun, but now it's duh... The other thing!"

I think there's something to be said about how SpongeBob's one of the few shows where the old guys in animation can find work. Lot of ex-R&S guys on the show.
