Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Trollhunters movie is so stupid
Literally ends with the protagonist time-resetting the entire Tales of Arcadia franchise just to bring back his fat best friend and make him the new Trollhunter (how is that won't get him killed again??)...

why the fuck
As soon as they started killing off that many characters in the movie it was blatant that some manner of time travel was on the horizon. Going that far back is an odd choice but hey, it's how Mighty Max concluded.

Why does this feel so fucking forced....
Had a feeling this was mentioned already as I said in a prior comment it's been a mother fucking crazy weekend. It feels forced because it's at best a ratings trap to try and save the show in its death rattle (next to impossible when Disney gives something the ax it's getting the axe.) At worst it's the writers/animators expressing their fetish for pairing these two together. You just know if they weren't trying to tick every lbqtxyz box they'd have made amity bi too,

As I said earlier I think there should have been another episode of Luz working out her own feelings. The full speed dive in feels very superficial. I don't think it's really a ratings trap yet but we'll see how subsequent episodes pan out.

Whether or not it's any staff members personal projecting into their work I will hold off on saying. The shit confirmed about the She-Ra writer makes me honestly glad I never knew it while watching because that shit is a lot darker with that context.

Disney fucking knows. They know that Lumity is the only reason anybody tunes in, so they're milking it for all it's worth. "Not a ratings trap" my ass.
You post enough on here that you know as well as I do that the unwashed masses on Twitter do not represent their audience in any meaningful manner except for "where can I most easily find people who watch Disney cartoons who should not be allowed near children."

It might be a ratings move but we need to see how the episodes from here go. Pointing out that there's videos about it is like saying how the "Think Mark!" meme is clear evidence they were pandering to the internet. This nonsense was about a third of an episode that also pandered to furries and people who like the plot.

Why can't western animation just tell stories and be a quick way to take a load off my mind for a moment or two anymore?

Because current year clown world that's why
To be fair, most of them do do that. The constant politicising comes from fans on social media, not the actual shows in question. It's like the inverse of how Star Wars execs will say the franchise is doing well but you only have to watch the content to see the reality of the situation.

Wow, this girl is so arrogant. What is with internet nobodies and weirdos being so smug nowadays?
Social media makes even the lowliest of nobodies feel like a somebody. And we’ve seen the result of that.
What does this even mean.
It’s the same energy as this one twitard who simped for cartoon girls with shaved heads and said you weren’t a real man if you didn’t like it. Basically praising designs for being progressive or subversive in someway while thinking it makes you a rebel for doing so.
Or to put it simply, generic twitter fetishism.

Be me: See that Invincible meme keep popping up, vague awareness that there's a cartoon about superheroes, see something about "critically acclaimed" on some website. Have a free morning, decide to put it on.

Okay... fairly generic young superhero thing... bit like Sky High. Keep watching. Last five minutes suddenly see someone's head squeezed till their eyeball pops out and a woman have her head snapped 180 and spew blood. Lovely!

Idly, because what the Heck, I read summary on Wikipedia of next episode. Sounds boring. Ep. 3 seems maybe better? Click on play and skip around... little girl who is actually 22 but has body of twelve year old.... Ooookay. Skip a bit - main character preparing for date with a girl. Gay best friend brings him Tehnehesi Coates book to read so he can impress her... Jesus! Skip back to Wikipedia to read last episode summary because my OCD doesn't let me drop a series without knowing what happens in the end. Reveal is pretty much as expected. Done.

This shit is "critically acclaimed"? Fuck that. Why has all Western Animation become shit?

I mean, outside of some current year stuff, it’s a solid adaption of the comic which I find pretty good itself; a welcome reconstruction in an era oversaturated with deconstruction. Rather than yet another animated shock comedy, it’s more dramatic fare with really well done fight scenes and all around good animation, so I can see why it would be critically acclaimed. And Western animation isn’t completely lost as seen with gems like Primal and Castlevania.

But if you want a serious answer on why animation seems to have gone down the crapper, it’s complicated to explain, going all the way back to the 2008 recession.

Big South Park news.

South Park' co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone inked a massive deal with Paramount+ to release 14 new movies based on the series through 2027.
Goddamn and here I was thinking SP was starting to slow down. Paramount is really going all in for their streaming service, at least movie wise.
