Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I love NFB animation. It's not for nothing that many of their films have won Academy Awards, including two of the shorts you've posted here: The Sand Castle and Special Delivery.

Here's another NFB short, which won an award in a category you'd never guess - Best Short Documentary, of all things.
I suppose it won there since this was the 1950's and the Academy hadn't consider animation as anything beyond "cartoons". That took a while to change by the 70's when the Hollywood studios closed up shop and they were stuck with foreign and indie efforts like the NFB to nominate.

Principal waxelplax: Mr crocker! What are you doing?!

Crocker: gah! Principal waxelplax! I was just...hunting faires.

Waxelplax: knock it off crocker! I don't want anything freaking out the children at the assembly today!

Chester and AJ: ahhhhhh! Ghost frog!

Random boy: haunted locker room!

Random math teacher: haunted chalk board!

Waxelplax: too late...

Pretty funny how back in my middle school days, I used to watch this occasionally on the Kids’ WB! Network.

Now that same network is called The CW and they’ll be doing the Powerpuff Girls live action show without one of their cast members.

A bizarre timeline we’re living in when early to mid-00’s cartoons seem exceptional in hindsight.

This and Jackie Chan Adventures were my go to "item quest" cartoons back in the day.

ohh jabberjaw, what have those troon flag waving heathens done to you?

That’s not even one of the stranger changes. In addition to the bizarre trans thing they’re pushing with the gender swapped characters, apparently Hadji and Jonny Quest are married in this version.
Keep in mind, Hadji is Jonny’s adoptive brother in every other iteration. This show keeps getting weirder the bigger the LGBT fanbase gets.

What fucking fanbases? A fanbases would imply they actually watch this crap as opposed to just going Gaga over seeing"representation" in it.

Also how is it venture brothers and Harvey birdman attorney at law were more respectful to johnny quest and on those shows, race and Benton were played up like a gay couple in a custody battle for johnny and hajji and on venture brothers johnny was portrayed as a psychotic wreck who became a total recluse after the PTSD from being a kid adventurer drove him off the deep end

They're a gay couple, just like Dr. Quest and Race?

Apparently there’s some old meme attached to that? I dunno, I’m still in disbelief that Jellystone of all shows pulled the “not by blood” card.
People have always been joking about that, same way as people have always been joking that Shaggy was a stoner.

You know it just dawn on me. Voice actresses like Tara Strong and Grey DeLilse who were supporting this woke crap. Basically surpported themselves out of a job. If you notice most main female characters in cartoons lately have been girls of color and even the white She-ra was voiced by a Hispanic voice actress. And becuase now that voice actors can't voice characters of different ethnic backgrounds anymore.

So basically go woke, screw yourself over ladies.

Don't shed a tear for them. You just know, no matter how low their careers go, even if they're homeless and reduced to sucking dicks in a Burger King bathroom, they'll still delude themselves into thinking, "This is for the better. Some nice minority can do the work I used to do while I go down on random dudes. After all, the clap's just my penance for being a white privileged piece of shit."

They still get work and they still have parts in some pretty well-known stuff so... Well, I don't think they're that pissed they didn't get Generic Asian Girl #8.

(God knows they were never getting those roles either. Back in my day black girls were always Cree Summer and Asian girls were always Lauren Tom.)

I'm with you there. I wasn't sheding a tear. I was looking at the irony. The only reason it dawn on me because recently I was looking back at cartoons form when I was a kid. I remmber Tara Strong was voicing as a main character in like at least 4 different shows I would watch same with Grey.

Look as of now. My little poney was one of Tara last few big roles. She still currently voicing Raven in Teen Titans Go. But that's all I can think of.

Grey last I saw her in a cartoon show was Star vs the forces of evil as the mother of Star and of course she still does the Neverending scobby doo movies (but very few of those are good).

Edit: @Steamboat Bill I know that. As I listed above. True Cree Summer was always voicing the black girl and Lauren Tom was always voicing the Asian girl in cartoons back when I was a kid. Not true Tara has voiced like two Asian characters that can come to me at the second.

You look at their IMDBs, they're still doing a lot of stuff.

Tara Strong's still Twilight Sparkle in the new MLP thing, Grey DeLisle's several of the sisters on The Loud House... God knows those two ain't hurting for cash.

A lot of the old guys are still pretty active, all things considered. Even Frank Welker's still working and he's gotten expensive.

Oh shit I forgot about the Loud House and I didn't know Tara was still doing Twlight Sparkle. Is the new ben 10 reboot still on?

Ok screw what I said above. My bad how I forgot some of these shows that they are currently doing is beyond me.

Not just Frank Welker. Jim Cummings and Rob Paulson are currently still getting plenty of voice gigs too. I wouldn't be shocked if soon their just as expensive as Welker currently is.

Maybe the voice acting field is just getting bigger that's all.

Has Lauren Tom done anything notable. She was in that offer disney channel Andie Mack, but that's not voice work. For some reason I feel I haven't heard her voice in a while in a cartoon?

People have always been joking about that, same way as people have always been joking that Shaggy was a stoner.
I guess the weirdness comes from the fact that they’re playing it seriously as opposed to a comedy like Harvey Birdman. It would be like taking the old jokes about Batman and then seriously have him lust after his wards.
I still can’t get over the adoptive brothers part.

Ironic that you say this since a major role Strong had and loved was Ashi, not generic asian girl 8. Both Summer and Tom had roles outside their race; there were even other black and Asian VAs voicing those roles so I’m not sure why you imply things were so segregated back then. Nor do I get the whole “back in my day” oldfag bit.

Really the two things that get to me are the hypocrisy from many of the people pushing it (Phil LaMarr) and acting like it’s a bigger deal than it really was. Yes I’m so sure black people were suffering from having Cleveland voiced by a white guy; surely giving him a black VA would help their plight.

How much does voice acting even pay? I know that VA work for anime and certain video games pays absolute peanuts.

Probably, but the voice acting field getting bigger is definitely a good thing, regardless of race.

As the old talents get older they will inevitably get more expensive, but thankfully people have enough respect for the old talents that they'll have the old roles till they die, much as happened to June Foray and Mel Blanc.

For some reason I can't reply to the above two posts, but yes, Lauren Tom has been in animation lately, and no, voice acting doesn't pay that much. You can make a living off it but you have to keep working, and you're not going to be as rich as any of the live-action guys. If you do dubbing work, especially non-union work, then the situation gets worse.

That's probably the beautiful thing about voice acting is that old voice actors are able to voice their known characters until they die. I still love how June Foray was able to reprise her role as Granny in the Loony Tunes show.

Also I didn't mean to say the voice acting field is growing as a bad thing. It's a defintly good thing! Hell you got people like David Tennet who seems to be doing more voice over stuff as time goes on.

Also that reminds me at some point I would really love to do a post on here discussing a bunch of old cartoons I found form the 90s that star a bunch of great voice actors.
