What are Millennials actually good at? - I’m curious

My father knew basic carpentry, masonry, woodworking, hunting, fishing, home repairs, car maintenance, etc while still holding a professional degree and career.

He was a rageaholic asshole who encouraged college and white collar careers. But his awful personality prevented him from passing down any of his impressive armamentarium of practical skills to his children, leaving an evolutionary dead-end to these acquired skills.

There's an argument to be made why I'm not self-taught. But my nature and my strengths don't lend themselves to these practical skills without being dragged into them.

One day in middle-age you wake up and realize that you have no skills beyond the specialized career you've been trained to do your whole adult life.

While all the women around you lament that no one "can fix anything anymore" except the few remaining old men who are more feeble everyday.
You could (slowly, with care) teach yourself those skill with online resources before branching out into asking people for help IRL. People teach themselves how to build furniture and make cheese using YT. Yeah, it's not as quick or convenient as having your dad teach you in person, but I've seen people do it. Pick the skill that interests you most and learn it!

I acknowledge that my own personal lack of ambition certainly plays a role. My nature also prefers wasting time in the digital world than producing something in the tangible one.

I do also blame the older men around me who are still alive and capable.

Those with general home maintenance skills make it very clear that "they would prefer to work alone" when you show an interest in the work they are doing so that one day you could potentially pick up the torch.

I'm not particularly great at anything, but thanks to zoomies and their complete brainrot my once-mediocre, basic skills now make me somewhat of a specialist.
We had an intern who couldn't light a gas stove and had no idea how to use a scanner. If you thought the South Park episode was exaggerating how fucking retarded zoomers are, you were wrong.

So if millennials are supposedly tech illiterate, then who are the ones running tech? 60 year olds?

On the whole Millennials are probably the most tech-literate of any generation because they're young enough to have grown up alongside emerging internet technology but old enough not to be trained into learned helplessness by mobile technology and algorithms.

Don't be mad just because younger guys are able to have both functional computers and functional dicks.

A friend of mine works' for IT company been their for a party once i noticed most of the staff/employees bar maybe one was late gen X and millennials born in the 80's from the looks of it.

As for actual skills, I can determine whether some shit is actually "secretly gay" or not without fucking writing or watching and parroting some 50 minute video essay claiming it is. That's nothing apparently compared to the fact I can understand Skibidi toilet, something millenials and zoomers who spent their whole lives watching SFM shitposts suddenly got possessed by boomer brain ghosts and went "uhhhhh what is? this it makes no sense!?!". Bitch you are either lying for clout or have actual dementia.

If anyone actually hired me for anything or let me enter training and education without a hefty fucking fee I can't pay because no job I'd have been able to do a lot fucking more than the current swarm of people that get their education shit paid for by people in higher places of power. I gotta take what skills I naturally excel at like understanding why the funny little man in the toilet goes "skibidi bop bop bop yes yes" while committing atrocities during a turf war.

Probably being in the "most likely to work a computer correctly from childhood" category. Gen X didn't grow up with them the same way, and Gen Z warped to the smartphone zone, making Gen Y the de facto tech-savvy generation.

I'm sure some of you remember using XP, or troubleshooting connection issues, or not instantly, voluntarily megadoxxing your entire life and actively attempting a digital footprint the size of India.

That's what millenials were good at. The Internet.

I wonder if different generations just evaluate tech savvyness differently. When it comes to assembly I only know boomers who can write it. Or all the weird shit they had to do to make computers run things well pre-windows.

In relation to younger generations, probably using tech and being competent at their jobs like others here have said. There is a massive competency crisis going on right now in every level of the workforce, so just being experienced, willing to work and not being an anxious wreck/having Null-tier ODD makes you a living god in a lot of places.

Given the proportions of LolCows on this site, I’m not so sure this specific claim is true. Avid Facebook/LinkedIn use (family pictures, tagging relatives, pictures of home renovations, job locations, etc.) alone shows more of your critical information than a thousand TikTok videos of you twerking. (Although that’s very bad for different reasons)

In my opinion, the whole generation thing being based on time is a little silly. The older millennial types are a different generation, IMO, simply because when they were developing as children they didn't have the Internet or computers until well into their teens and early twenties. I'm kind of in that range, which might present bias, however I've noticed when I'm out in public I never have my phone out, I wear a mechanical watch, and in general just keep screen time to a bare minimum. This is in contrast to my younger millennial friends who are glued to their phones at near every waking moment, even worse if they are a "trust fund" kid and were the first to own gen 1 smart phone tech.

I guess, the one skill the older millennials have is making fuck you money early in the game and then attempting to take over the world alongside their technology idles like Bill Gates. The generations that don't practice self regulation of "screen time" are fucked no matter which way ya cut it.

That's Xennials you're talking about there. AKA "The Oregon Trail Generation" Mostly cause we only got to use computers at school if you weren't upper middle class or something due to the price and every one of them damn Apple II SE's has fuckin Oregon Trail on it at some point or another.

Played outside and did shit like that and we didn't really get the internet til we were early-to-mid teens and the price of modern computers had gotten to where lower income folks had a bit better access to the tech. Still needed some money to really afford one but it became a lot more obtainable at about that point.

So since this was all pre youtube so you had to dig and ask around to find out how to do anything with the damn things too. It makes you get use to beating your head against the wall when it comes to working on electronics.

Fortnite. I don't know how those faggots can play that garbage. I'm too old, too slow, and my eyes are too gone. I tried and just can't do it.
