What are some "culture shocks" you've had going to a different country and noticing things are different?

I once saw a pair of New Yorkers eat their first Kolaches.
“Nah, but what kind of cheese is in it”
“The good kind, blud”
Truly a magical moment. Still shocks me they arent a thing outside the american south.

The amount of scammers in Italy (Rome & near it, yeah I know, tourism attracts these).

The random retards & dipshits in the wild, molto Italiano, and also the lack of quality of food in (at least) normal shops.

Met a Canadian woman who referred to herself unironically as a "POC" and said she got shit for being a POC. Someone actually referring to themself as a POC and not their actual ethnicity threw me for a loop, if I referred to my Latino and pinoy buddies as POCs, they'd both stop, give me a death glare, and I really don't want to draw the ire of the Filipino mafia.

Might as well just identify as non-white.

"Where are your parents from?"

"I'm non-white."

Once when I went on holiday to Egypt a merchant tried to sell me a whip “for my mother in law” and I was a bit alarmed that he thought I was old enough to have a mother in law since I was a particularly scrawny 13 year old at the time. Also couldn’t figure out if the whip was for the mother in law to whip a farm animal of some sort or whether I was supposed to use it to whip my hypothetical mother in law.

People in Spain fucking love knee tattoos.

Any humid country is eating weird pappy sweet bread instead of toothsome sourdough.

Jamaicans will charge you a white skin surcharge and give you the shittest part of the food they’re selling. They also don’t bother putting roofs on their houses as I guess it attracts some kind of tax, so there’s rusty rebar sticking out everywhere.

I went to Venice and they got guys with roses all over the fucking place. They even enter restaurants to come after you.

They approach you and hold out a rose without saying anything as if it's a gift. If you take it (which some might out of instinct without thinking) they take that as a sale and demand payment.

Other countries you might see guys selling bracelets (niggers from Morocco go over to the Canary islands looking for rich and stupid British tourists with hotel bracelets on their wrists) or cigarettes or perfumes (fake obvs) on the streets. I haven't been to Rome but I heard they got guys dressed like gladiators who offer photos then ask for a fortune and won't let tourists go unless they pay up. To add to this don't play any "guess the cup the ball is under" games (it's a scam- it's in the guy's hand) and don't pick up any shoeshiners' brushes unless you want a sob story begging for money.

Do the following:

1 Be aware of your surroundings. If you see any of these people don't go near them. It's like a video game where they suddenly become active and approach you if you go within a certain radius.

2 Don't make eye contact.

3 Keep walking. This is the important one because if you stop then they've got you and some might find it hard to break away.

4 Be polite but firm. Say no thanks and keep walking. As tempting as it can be to tell them to fuck off some of them might get upset and spend the next 10mins following you around the city saying angry stuff.

Yeah, I went there but it wasn't for roses, it was for those shitty batteries. Sitting down outside of a restaurant with family, with the same retards passing by every 5 minutes asking if we wanted to buy those shitty phone batteries.

It's also a usual one the fake "petitions". I encountered one, she tried so hard to compliment my family member, it was so embarrassingly fake :story:. And of course the overpriced bullshit, even if it's for like a tea. Those ball-under-the-cup games are a scam 99.9% of the time.

And also general retards on the city, there was some mentally damaged guy in the middle of the street (he just looked like a somewhat old man) trying to pick up fights with men, while the police was there in front (they didn't do much besides from barely holding him down when he pretended to go beat up some other guy). He was getting angry randomly like a crazy person, and even went to other men waiting there asking some stupid shit, like he wanted to start something.

This guy (his channel is more focused on India, scammers in there but also cultural stuff and such) made a video about Rome:
