What are some nice places to live in Texas

I was told San Antonio.

West Texas is pretty beautiful. Not talking about El Paso either. Big Bend, Marfa, Alpine, the more rural areas. There is some very beautiful land out there. If you wanna live on the Gulf Coast, just move to Galveston. Corpus Christi is an absolute shithole that clings to the fame of a dead Tejano music singer like it's their only claim to relevance. Also the city has a nepotism problem when it comes to management. Dallas is alright but it's pretty bland when it comes to culture. Apparently it's there, just "hidden". San Antonio is hella fantastic, though. Big city with a small town feel. The drivers on the freeway can be a little aggressive though.

The whole state

More specific advice, San Antonio is really cool. Riverwalk is beautiful, wonderful city especially if you like Mexican culture.

When my family visited there we were walking around the tourist area and this very brown Mexican man nodded to us and said something like, "There's a lot of Mexicans here, aren't there?"

Lived all over the state and can confirm that the San Antonio area is great. Not even just the city its self but all the smaller towns around it are great. There was one town in between San Antonio and Austin that was really nice, if not a little expensive, but I cant remember the name. Speaking of Austin, if your a sane individual stay the fuck away. If it seems appealing to you just live in San Antonio and make the 1.5-2 hour drive to go see whatever shitty indie band you just have to see. Food in San Antonio is absolutely fantastic as well, and not just the mexican food. Chris Madrid is a great burger and Bill Miller is decent for fast food bbq. OFC there are hundreds of good mexican food places.

Other than that, stay away from Houston. Nothing good there that you cant get elsewhere in the state, and its a shithole. Tyler area is pretty good. Might be a bit to redneck-ish from out of staters, but all the people in the small towns are super nice, strong sense of community ect.

But also FUCK OFF WERE FULL.

Texas is a terrible place. Step foot out of the metropolitan areas it looks like a casting call for the chainsaw massacre. It's humid, incredibly humid. Dangerous heat is common. The insect life is a practical joke, particularly the mosquitos. My good friend recently dealt with a fuckin rattlesnake infestation. Real estate prices have more than doubled on even the shittiest housing due to the filthy Californian onslaught. Let's not even think about the new and exciting diseases routinely slinking over the Mexican border.

Unless you've got a really good, secure job offer down there, or some family obligation you can't weasel out of - look elsewhere.

I'm visiting Texas soon so this thread has piqued my interest. How bad is Austin, really? And is Dallas just another big tech pajeet hub?

Austin is becoming a Californian shitting street type of place due to the municipal decriminalization of misdemeanors and homeless related criminal behavior.

Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Texas Instruments all have plants and labs located in the Dallas Metroplex or the surrounding suburbs and satellite cities, in addition to all the multinational corporate headquarter relocations to the same locale (I think Toyota was the last big one before the virus). So yes, on paper, there's lots of H1B pajeets in the Dallas Metroplex area. I always see dozens of them playing cricket in the local parks when it's 95+ F outside and all the Americans are sheltering inside their air conditioned homes. And on Fridays, god help you if you accidentally drive within a block of a mosque. There will be crowds of jaywalking kebabs spilling all over the crosswalks and sidewalks on the way to the mosque. I don't know why they can't just drive there. Maybe they are like those Jews who don't use electricity during their Sabbath.

If you stay out of the Muslim colonies (they seem to buy or rent up all the housing within walking distance of every mosque) and the newer subdivisions that are fully occupied by broad swathes of H1B software engineers and the Indo-Pak supermarket/restaurant clusters, you won't notice them that much more than any other minority group. I guess there would also be higher concentrations of them in the ritzy high-end shopping strips and leisure outlets that tend to be built up near the big corporate headquarters and labs in the suburbs.
