What are some of your "warning sign" bands? - When you hear someone says they like X band then it's time to ask for the check.

Any girl who listens to grindcore: had sex with 30 dudes
To be fair, this applies to most chicks in the punk/hardcore/grind scene. Especially if they're chubby.
I'm not even going to go into why since that'd take like ten different autistic rambling effortposts, but these bands and artists are the ones I consider to be major red flags for various reasons...

Crass
Black Flag
Anyone that has a tattoo of either band logo has turned out to be a piece of shit scumbag that is way too old to be acting and living that way.

I forgot to add this, most modern Breakcore musicians. It’s a shitty ADHD ridden genre, with an overused drum beat. I assume most people who listen to breakcore are smelly zoomer/gen alpha speds who only console are the Wii, and/or the Nintendo Switch. Many of the so-called breakcore fans don’t even listen to Aphex Twin. They also pollute places with their shitty music. Every modern Breakcore fans I have seen turned out to be social outcasts with no friends.

If anyone you know starts talking about Black Country New Road or Black Midi, you immediately know they're an irredeemable hipster and their taste in music is not to be trusted.

I saw a bunch of places posting about how they made AOTYs and thought I was being trolled when I first gave them a listen.

If a girl has ever heard one song in her entire life she has had sex with enough dudes to fill up a stadium

IF she hasn't, she's deaf and therefore made funny retard noises while she was having sex with enough dudes to fill up a stadium

Also this is literally you if you like any music I don't like:

there's a whole pop-adjacent genre that's all just damaged BPD girls making sad/angry songs about how super difficult it is to have their problems, or how they're totally over That One Relationship even though they've made like eight songs about it, or how they're so psychologically dominated by needing love that it makes them unstable, etc, like a whole genre made by and for ex-girlfriends. like Halsey, Banks, Billie Eilish, the new Demi Lovato (after her Disney Channel years), I'm unfortunately familiar with these artists cause I was with a girl who was into them and man. if you ever meet a girl that listens to that shit on the reg, turn the other way and run for your fucking life

I don't have any specific bands for this one, but dudes who are into that viking war chant music, or like viking gothic metal, are devastatingly cringe posers who need to cling to somebody else's of image of toughness so they can adopt it as a facade. a lot of internet white nationalist fags are like this. IT'S MUH ANCESTRY!!! no dude you're literally listening to gangster rap for white people. also your ancestors are probably british swamp people. calm down.

I just want to add to this post that I have discovered the mother fucking Platonic Form of insane ex-girlfriend music. incels and gentlechads, I present to you, SkyDxddy

I am not your bitch
Fuck the congress
Fuck the legislature
I am not on earth just so I can be your incubator
Ak-47s
Assault rifles
And a Glock
All are more protected than a woman screaming "stop!"
And if you want a fight you got it
Put 'em up let's see them hands
3.9 million women
Meaning you don't stand a chance
And this right here's my temple
I have every right to choose
And if you trespass on my body
I have every right to shoot
Our mothers did not sacrifice their lives
So we could die
At some back alley abortion clinic
You have been denied
You took away our rights
When we had nothing more to take
And you don't give a fuck about all of the lives you put at stake so
Bitch, we're not against friendly fire
We will kill
Trying to play god doesn't play out very well
Does it?
If you push our buttons, then it's likely blood will spill
Yes, if we find the need to slit your throat
We fucking will

this bitch ought to rename herself Red Flag

Never have I felt pleased to be too old to have heard of the vast majority of bands mentioned in this thread.

The Clash were posh-boy posers (well, Strummer and Jones anyway). Refused to go on Top Of The Pops, wankers. TOTP was good enough for Bolan, Bowie, Roxy, and all the rest. What makes you so special? Plus all that happened is you got the indignity of Legs & Co hoofing it to your songs instead. The Ruts were far better and more authentic.

As for Siouxsie And The Banshees, this is the only 'type' here I would slightly identify with. They were punk, and morphed into more interesting arty dark stuff (ie - goth) when punk became mainstream and yobbish and a group fashion rather than focusing on individuality. And when they became better musicians. And acid. Any 12-year-old who tries to lecture/correct me can fuck right off, I've been a fan since 1978 (not trying to powerlevel, and not aimed at anyone on here - yet - but I'm that old).

Alanis Morissette's 'Jagged Little Pill' for whatever generation today's teenagers/early 20s type call themselves. Oh joy...

Nightwish and Sonata Arctica are dodgy ones. Shitty power metal with lyrics about being a virgin with rage.

Jonathan Coulton, Voltaire, Abney Park and any filk stuff - guaranteed to be a fucking insufferable "quirky" nerd. Probably wears a bow tie or a Thinkgeek T-shirt, or both at the same time. And I like nerds who are into proper nerd shit like trains and maths and building things in sheds, but these people are something else.

Cobra Starship, BOTDF, Kim Petras, psytrance music - confirmed nonce.

Death in June. Weird buggers seem to like him
I somewhat agree, I like Douglas and have always had very pleasant interactions with him, but he does have a lot of "fanboi" followers who think his every word is gospel. In his defence, he seems to find them quite uncomfortable to be around.
I do like some DI6 stuff, especially the acoustic recordings from the Symbols and Clouds boxset, but his fans can be insufferable. The same can be said for that whole milieu; Boyd Rice, Genesis P-Orridge etc.

I was in a band once with a guy who was one of those fanbois, and it was fucking awkward when he was around Douglas.

Tool is my favorite band
If we're going strictly empirically here, I've only ever met one girl in my entire life who liked Tool/A Perfect Circle and it some fat slampig I hooked up with. The Tool/A Perfect Circle fans I know are usually awkward nerdy stoner hipster types who take themselves real seriously. Either that or pseudo-intellectual liberal Gen-Xers.
KISS is huge among the Boomers I know, but like 90% of them are strictly fans of their 70's stuff, and mostly just Ace Frehley. Almost every KISS fan I know universally hates everything beyond their disco era, and also hates Paul & Gene -- they're basically just Ace fanboys who madly love their early albums. My friend saw one of their many farewell concerts and said it was a good show, but Paul sucked and obviously sang with a backing track.

As I only go to metal concerts 99% of the time I usually just look at people's metal vests before I decide if it's worth talking to the person bc there are several red flags on a vest.

- only patches from mainstream metal bands bc you don't dig deeper into what the genre has to offer
- only bands signed to Nuclear Blast bc all Nuclear Blast bands sound the same and suck
- patches from mainstream labels/mailorder brands like EMP
- patches from Wacken Open Air
- festival wrist bands sewn onto the vest
- mostly/only patches from bands that only release digital shit on bandcamp but have no real physical releases. Fuck all these bandcamp-only bands.

I am a simple man. If your vest sucks, you suck.

I want to add to my comment about KISS fans: just like that band in question, a lot can be said about Motley Crue -- in the sense that they're still immensely popular for old Boomers, but they generally only enjoy a certain era or member of the band. As I mentioned with KISS, the general consensus among hardcore fans is that Gene and Paul are assholes, but Ace is the only real member. Crue fans almost unanimously hate Vince, Tommy, and Nikki -- but love Mick Mars.

Look up any drama video about Motley Crue, and the comments section is pretty much this:
  • "I've been a Cruehead since 1983 and loved them even in the 90's! Fuck Vince, fuck Nikki, fuck Tommy...we love Mick!"
  • "They should have quit after Dr. Feelgood. These guys are all talentless hacks, except Mick."
  • "I used to love this band in the 80's, and each time I saw them Vince's voice sounded like shit, Tommy sucked, Nikki sucked, but Mick can still play."
  • "I saw 'em at the big Stadium Tour with Def Leppard: Vince was a fat fuck who bounced around stage and sounded horrible, Nikki was clearly miming his bass, Tommy was using a backing track, but god damn Mick fucking rocked!"
  • "Mick is the most underrated guitarist of all time: the rest of the band are hacks!"
In this video here, the guy pretty much emphasizes that the band is washed-up, but Mick is great. The comments section is entirely full of people praising Mick and trashing the rest of the band, and talking about how their shows suck...except for Mick's guitar:

...and the same thing generally goes for KISS videos on Youtube, especially interviews:
  • "The band should have just quit in the 90's with Psycho Circus. Ace is the only real member of the band!"
  • "I'm in my 60's and have been a KISS Army fan since I was a teenager: Gene & Paul are greedy hacks, but Ace is keeping it real."
  • "I'll never waste money paying to see them live, but I'd gladly see them if they reunite with Ace Frehley! He rocks!"
  • "I love their old music, but they should have quit after Ace left the band."
  • "Ace is a down to earth guy unlike Paul & Gene. Fuck them, Ace rocks!"
Hell, if you look up interviews and news videos about Paul or Gene, the comments section is full of people trashing them and saying how Ace is the only good member.
