What are some of your "warning sign" bands? - When you hear someone says they like X band then it's time to ask for the check.

Billie Eillish - She's been mentioned here already, but mostly for female fans. I want to talk about male fans. I've only met 3, but all 3 of them were pretentious dicks that love reddit and trash talk anyone who isn't a big Leftist. They all 3 said the same thing, that she's wildly talented and that if you don't agree then you just "don't understand music". All 3 of them showed me the same video on YouTube where some guy with a lot of subscribers ""educates"" the viewer on why she's actually for real talented and that everyone should respect her even if they don't like her music. Look man, I don't care if people like her, but I just don't think her music is anything special. Some of it's catchy, but I don't find the lyrics that deep or the music groundbreaking as people claim. And lots of people seem to ignore the fact that she only made it in the industry due to her parents, not due to her being some talented underdog that rose to fame organically.

It's even funnier when you know it's her brother that writes all her music.

If they say they'll listen to anything when I ask what they want to listen to then I'll play a minute or two of goregrind (I like it) on purpose then stop it and say "no you don't, so again, what do you want to listen to?" with a chuckle.
I say this as a metalhead - never subject anyone to the kind of music you enjoy. NOBODY wants to hear that shit. If you ever find someone who's into the same music as you, they're an even bigger autist than you are. Don't be autistic. It's not that hard.

I know, I don't. That's why I just play a minute. I'm not trying to convert anyone, but if I'm giving the option is for a reason. Same thing if I ask someone what they want to drink and they say "whatever", bitch I don't have "whatever", I'm asking because I care about your opinion and you enjoying yourself, now what do you want to drink?

This is exactly why I answer with "I'll listen to anything". Nine times out of ten, people don't care, but that ten percent of the time, the other person will put on some shit to try to seem weird and edgy and they just come off like a complete fag.
"You'll listen to anything? Heh, how about this little snippet of my dark, twisted psyche?"
*plays cattle decapitation
"Heh heh. Wasn't that insane? I bet your normie brain is too fried by top 40 pop music to comprehend these hellish melodies."
I just shrug and say "it was okay", but what I really cherish is that moment of pure cringe where someone tries to come off as weird or edgy by playing a song.
I use that to judge people more harshly than their music taste. When they listen to what they like, it's what they like. When they play something to get a reaction, then they listen to it for status.
They always play the same stuff, too. Goregrind, Chelsea Grin, Cannibal Corpse. If someone goes "You'll listen to anything? Even this?" and plays some Bob Dylan or Michael Jackson, then I'd be impressed, because there's some lore behind that decision and I want to hear it.

People can actually like goregrind without it being an edge status whatever, or representing any twisted psyche. Music doesn't reflect the person, brother.

Quite a lot of infantilization here. OH NYOOOOOOO HOW COULD YOU PLAY A MINUTE OF SOMETHING THEY PROBABLY WON'T LIKE NYOOOOOOOOOOOOO THE TRAUMA THE HORROR WHY ARE YOU SUBJECTING THEM TO THAT
Nigger if I can survive my neighbors blasting their shit gansta rap the whole afternoon every weekend then some friend can deal with a minute of my fav music as a joke. Goddamn pussies the lot of you.

I think some people may be confused about the purpose of this thread, because it was my impression that the question was more
“what music is such nails-on-chalkboard horrible noise that you wouldn’t be able to sit in a car with someone who liked it and listen to it without insisting it be turned off?”
and less
“what music do people I dislike/find problematic listen to?”

Even if I’m wrong and the latter question is the one being posed, I think the former would be more interesting and relevant.

Ok then. While they are semi-tolerable, I still really don't like Shinedown in general. I have never once said to myself "I think I'll listen to some Shinedown". Unfortunately they get a lot of airplay here and I happen to listen to a lot of radio. So hearing Shinedown is unavoidable. If someone requests a block of Shinedown that radio is going off until the block is over. I can take one song. But I won't listen to a block. They played a Christmas song that was alright. But it's just that 3-5 minutes of Shinedown is all I can take. I don't get why they are so well liked. Maybe because they're kind of like a Nickleback thing. Not too hard to scare off normies. Not too soft to put you to sleep.

That said they are better than Nickleback.

I already know you guys hate everything and the people who enjoy it and I don't dgaf about the 9,001st guy chiming in to say that he finds some kind of abrasive music to be abrasive. I think it's more fun to do horoscopes based on musical interest. Can you figure out if I'm an insufferable asshole, based on my love of Band X? Or, if Band X is for insufferable assholes, perhaps I should try them out.

Linkin park fans always gave me the feeling they were partially deaf.

I recently went to a huge show where the "linda Lindas" opened for some better well known bands and I had the urge to buy a $17 canned drink just to chuck something heavy at the stage and hit one of them.

RATM... Tom Morello was/is a very talented guitarist, and I guess a philanthropist, Audioslave was always good because he was there. RATM was almost like a psyop of how fucking politically polarized and stupid you were. It was like buying an overpriced designer T shirt that said "fuck capitalism" for $50.

Tool fans. Not people who like Tool. Tool have made a lot of good music. But TOOL FANS. You know who I'm talking about.

EDIT: Also Clutch, except without the "good music" bit.

EDIT EDIT: Also Also Coheed & Cambria.

Swifties. I thought Kisstards were bad because they will buy anything with a Kiss logo and pay $500 to take pics with the band in front of a poorly hung backdrop. But Swifties go all over the globe paying thousands for a single ticket, sometimes even getting scammed out of crazy amounts of money. They rabidly attack anyone who doesn't like Taylor Swift and says negative things about her. It's so cult-like and freaky to me. They worship her like a deity.

Goregrind is kinda meh on record, tbh. It has to be appreciated live, where it's the most fun you can have with your pants on.
And the pants are entirely optional.
There's a lot of stuff one can put on for people who will listen to anything, but let's be real, the fun of that wears off fast. Might as well put on something you'll both are likely to enjoy.

Yes, especially Tool fans. Haven't even met a Coheed & Cambria fan in about 20 years, and Clutch... Dunno, I guess I didn't meet a proper fan yet. But Tool fans are the worst. And I like the band myself.

The good thing about bands such as Kiss or their die-hard fans is that you can ignore them. Sure I like a handful of Kiss songs but it's not like I'm there to rage or cringe at actions by the band or their fans. Just give me a few minutes to listen to Love Gun or Detroit Rock City and I'm happy.

With Taylor Swift or Betonce, it seems they're everywhere. No matter what you do you're forced to hear about them. Be it social networking sites, news site, popular media and even sports your insulted with their likeness. Only death you'd find peace from today's pop stars.
