What are the Worst Casting Decisions that have ever been made?

I'd have to go with the smiths in After Earth like mentioned. But they coulda had Daniel Day Lewis and Lawrence Olivier as the leads and it still woulda sucked total ass.
M Night made one good movie, one 2 ok ones, and it's against God's will to make anything else decent.

It really is amazing how his career has turned. Sitxh Sence was a long time ago. Also the dude has a knack for erasing any charisma that an actor might have.

Marky Mark isn't complete dog shit yet Shyamalan completely turned him into shit in The Happening, just as an example.

Also super unpopular opinion but Jaden Smith sucks as an actor and the Karate Kid remake (Which should technically be Kung Fu Kid considering the shifted focus to Chinese martial arts) only worked off the strength of Jackie Chan

Edit: Grammar and the following

And since I talked about voice aching before, Ronda Rousey as Sonya Blade was just awful. It's Ethan Klein in PAYDAY 2 levels of bad. Holy shit

I don't think anyone thinks Jaden is a good actor. It's clearly nepotism.
I guess I'm just unlucky then because I can't count the number of times, people have told me how amazing he was for such a "young actor" like he was the next Shirley Temple or Judy Garland, citing In The Pursuit of Happiness as an example.

I'm guessing those people were blinded by infatuation for Will when they made those statements.

But considering child actors tend to be garbage with a few outliers, that's an extremely low bar to set.

No replacing Hamilton, but Clarke looks like someone who'd get punched out by Summer Glau. She's tiny, bought no intensity to the role and (with due respect) has plainly never held a gun or done a pull-up in her life. She's not even the best Sarah Connor from GoT.

We went from a police station massacre to almost a romantic comedy.

TBF that movie was so fucking terrible that even Emilia Clarke said she was super relieved that they wouldn't be making any sequels.
Also, we actually have an entire trilogy of failed trilogies that tried to start a new Terminator trilogy :story:

Der Untergang was one of the few historical movies that had near perfect casting except for....
Ulrich Matthes as Joseph Goebbels.

I know it would have been very hard to get someone who looked like him but couldn't they gotten someone who at least could get his voice right?

David Proval looks the part kinda.

Laura Linney as the mother in Ozark. At certain points you're supposed to feel sympathy for her and want her to succeed, which is impossible because it's Laura Linney.

The black chick in AvP. I can believe that a bunch of Predators came to earth thousands of years ago and put a bunch of Xenomorph eggs in stasis, that somehow got out of hand, so they nuked everything, then all the xenos went dormant again or something, and they get stirred up by people just in time for the Preds to return and fight them again (maybe there was a signal or something, I don't remember), and they have to team up with the humans to kill the eons old queen.

What I can't believe is that a black chick is anywhere in the top 10,000 mountaineers in the world. The suspension of my disbelief has fucking limits.

Relavant to the Scott Pilgrim discussion in the other thread:

Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim. Rhe concept itself sucks, but having a guy with zero charisma, testosterone, or ability to emote... play a character who we're told is a womanizing rock band member who is fighting seven other dudes to nail a chick

It's actually perplexing how for like a three year period, we got a half dozen twee rom coms with Michael Cera. You can't tell me that kid can even look at a picture of a boob without crying.

Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. I guess she kinda worked as kid Mystique because she's such a baby face, but then she's adult Mystique in Days of Future Past and on, but still has that baby face, so she lacks that raw sex appeal. It really takes me out of the movie (DoFP in this case) whenever the movie insists that's she's beautiful. Which is the case with a lot of her roles where she's playing a character that's older than her, but lacks that maturity to overcome the neoteny on her face.

It's a general problem I have with 21th century actors, they all look like teenagers, not sexy 90120/Melrose Place adults playing teenagers. So while Tom Holland is great Spiderman casting, he's terrible as Nathan Drake casting. So they cap out as teenage characters even though they're in their 30s. So, since we don't have actors that can play anyone around 25-45, they got to go back to 20th century actors like Tom Cruise or Keanu Reeves, hence the 50 year old action star.

Not having Will Smith in the 2nd Independence Day but having pretty much all the other characters playing basically their same roles again. I wouldn't say it was the reason the movie was shit, but it was absolutely a major contributing factor. Mainly because it contributed to the movie having the feel of a cheap knockoff remake rather than a sequel.

Honestly they would have been much better off having the original characters just making cameo appearances and written up a story that was a true and honest sequel with new main characters.

Cameron Diaz in Gangs of New York, this one feels like a studio decision where they demand an actor or actress they think is the current hot shit to be given a role. Diaz just doesn't have the range or ability to pull off the accent needed for the role. Diaz is never going to be an award winning actress but she worked well in movies like the Mask or Charlies Angels, and really was no need for her to even try to go for a role like this in the first place.

Jared Leto as Morbius, I have no idea why he chose to portray Morbius of all characters in such a serious and muted way. It's a vampire action comic book movie, add some camp and fun to the acting, not saying he had to go MCU jokey with the role but not something so monotone. It's odd because his character in House of Gucci he went too over the top with, so not like he wasn't capable of the role.

Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook, Joy and American Hustle. She isn't bad in these roles, issue is she is about 10 to 15 years too young for each of these roles and can never escape that fact no matter how good her acting is. Joy Being the craziest one as the real woman was in her 40s during much of the events of the movie, while Jennifer Lawrence was in her mid 20s.

Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast. Movie is an awful soul less cash grab but putting aside that for one second, why on earth would they cast someone who can't sing as the lead of a musical?

Quentin Tarantino In Django Unchained. He has always cast him self in his own movies, and wouldn't say he was ever a good actor but he was never distractingly bad until this movie where for some reason he felt the need to do an godawful fake accent/

Denise Richards in The World Is Not Enough. Get why she would be cast in a Bond movie during the 90s but not as a nuclear physicist. If they really wanted a hot nuclear physicist then surely a better suited actress for the role.
