What are the Worst Casting Decisions that have ever been made?

I don't see it. Cletus is supposed to look unhinged, having a demented grimace and strong facial features. His normal appearance reminds me of an unbleached Joker. View attachment 7367266
I'm not saying this stick-figure of an actor would make a great Carnage, I’m just saying Carnage has always been this wiry, stab-you-in-the-face-before-you-can-blink type, not a brawler. Casting a rail-thin guy as Eddie Brock and then inflating him into a linebacker kind of misses the point.

Wait. Hold on. We've got James Corden playing a fat lazy glutton who eats trash. Isn’t Rebel Wilson also, like, a fat lazy glutton who runs a fascist regime? So we’re gonna have two fat lazy glutton cats in one movie?

Lily Rose Depp in Nosferatu was terrible. Her bogged face kept taking me out of the movie.
The lack of make-up did her no favours. But her casting was only one of a list of problems with that movie. Lovely sets, lovely costumes, some nice though over-stylised composition. But everything else about the movie was bad.

There can totally be bad casting in a bad movie, but for me it only really stands out when you have bad casting in an otherwise good movie.

I feel there's a third category too though - bad casting where it's not so much it makes the movie bad but into something very different to what it might have been. Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator. Iconic, right? Nobody ever imagines anything other than him, right? For the most part that's true but Arnold always has some level of cheese that you never escape. Look at Robert Patrick in the sequel or Cromartie in The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV show. I know they're both later models canonically that are supposed to be more able to interact with humans but that's an in-universe explanation for frankly better casting.

Cromartie stalking and then running after John is much more actually scary than Arnie wading through a hail of bullets because he's so cool.

Or Shirley Manson, even though her background is as a singer, does a very good job as a terminator replacing an existing real woman (who has a young daughter). You can see her learning and improving throughout the series. Especially creepy is near the end of the episode you see her repeat Ellison's comments about his father's passing almost word for word to her "daughter", simply copying and re-purposing his dialogue to seem more authentic.

I think Arnie is bad casting as the iconic terminator not because he was bad in the role exactly - the franchise was a huge success. But because his Arnie-ness took away from what I think could have been a much better version. Something with a bit more real edge.

Cameron's original intent was Arnold in Michael Biehn's role and OJ Simpson as The Terminator.

Hopefully AI gets good enough soon to give us that version.

Arnold is kind of like that in everything. Specifically I'm thinking of True Lies. Hit fits the super badass special agent role well, but I don't buy him as the boring, mild-mannered husband. Somebody like Jackie Chan arguably could have worked better and made it more believable.
But the film is fine for what it is.
That's pretty much my point. He was a success in Terminator but it made the film a certain type of success. I miss what we didn't get.

Good Lord. I know about the original suggestion by the studio that he should play Reese but had never heard about OJ Simpson as the Terminator. That's got to be urban legend, right?

Good Lord! The memes would just write themselves.

I always thought Brock Lesnar would make a good Eddie Brock and not just because of the name. The first time I saw Brock/Venom was in an old comic drawn by McFarlane and he looked like a blonde Mr. Olympia in it.

The Amazing Spider-Man 16: The Venominationing - starring Brock as Brock.
the symbiote is voiced by Paul Heyman, Venom is both

That’s the Hoff assassinating White Nick Fury so thoroughly, Marvel had to summon Sam Jackson like a defibrillator just to resuscitate the character. It was a TV movie, produced by Fox (of course).:punished:

Interestingly, Topher might’ve made a halfway decent Cletus Kasady.
And thank god we got Julia Louis Dreyfus as Contessa Allegra De Fontaine because that television film had.......Lisa Rinna instead.

I've got a doozy of a miscasting. One which aggrieves me especially because the movie is an adaptation of one of my favourite books. I'll let the picture do the talking: Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw in Wuthering Heights.
How did you go the whole post without mentioning Shazad Latif as "blond", "fair skinned" Edgar Linton? And somehow his sister Isabella is played by a white Irish actress.

Jesus! I didn't even notice that. I think all my mental fuses blew to protect me on learning of Margot Robbie was to play Catherine Earnshaw and Nelly Dean was to be played by Hong Chau and Vy Nguyen. Maybe they'll do a reverse Robert Downey Jr and put him in a blonde wig and lighten his skin. That would be hilarious. Or more hilarious they darken her down!

Honestly, this is one of worst movies for casting I've ever seen. FWIW, these two are the siblings in this movie:

In Hereditary the main characters played by Gabriel Byrne (first on the left) and Toni Collette (second on the right) have a son Alex Wolff (second on the left), who looks super Jewish. Most people probably didn't notice, but my jewdar is strong.

I take that you're familiar with this Mexican TV show.

Disney decided to cast the actress that plays here the little girl to voice Vanellope for Wreck It Ralph, which sounds at first like a great idea because not only she's also an experienced voice actress (doing it since she was herself a kid), but her character and Vanellope have the same personality.

So, she does it well, and she nails V's energy and mannerisms perfectly. But the actress already is in her 70s, and the voice showed it, which is a pity because she was perfect for this role for the reasons I just mentioned. Case of a wrong good decision.

Death of the endless in sandman. She went from a perfect deathly pale tone in the comic to some random moon cricket in the Netflixslop. Gaiman deserves his cancellation for being such a hypocritical sell-out.

Jo Yuri as Player 222. She had the same facial expressions during most of her performance, and could barely emote. Her acting is shit, and it's quite obvious she had no idea what she was doing. Singers are usually garbage actors, but she was that mediocre.
