What Are The Worst Character Designs You Have Ever Seen?

Someone at Fox it wherever liked cross-promoting crap.

The Digimon movie wasn't bad if you knew they were three unrelated films edited together.

That was pretty obvious to me even back then.

I know a little more about Digimon now than I did back then anyhow, but, in case anyone's wondering why I went to a movie for a series I didn't know much about, back in 2000, it was still kind of a novelty for me to see any kind of anime film in the cinema (not counting anime films I watched at Montreal's Fant-Asia Festival, but I had to go to specific arthouse screens for those, not suburban multiplexes).

You want to see some really bad character designs? You want to see those sort of really bland 80s or 90s style mediocre cartoon characters but also off-kilter looking, in a show intended to appeal to a more mature audience, even though it features the usual cartoonish comic relief, walk cycles in front of repeated backgrounds, over the shoulder shots and bonus hypocritical moralizing?

How about a "film" or rather a pilot that was never actually released or aired?

Ten years after the disbanding of Filmation, Lou Scheimer was approached by a Dutch investment company called Dreamweavers, N.V. to produce an animated series for young adults based on "an off-kilter Dutchman's renderings" of various cartoon characters. Oh, these people had ambitions for a franchise complete with a series, movies, music albums, and even a line of clothing, but all that came out of it was...this. Robin and the Dreamweavers.

Such is the storyline:

Robin, the first human ever born in cyberspace, battled the evil siren "Triple XXX" who desired an earthly body and gained power through mankind's baser carnal desires. The film, however, was never distributed.".

The full movie is available on Youtube and elsewhere but here's a handy compilation for those who don't feel like having to speed through 74 minutes of this. It's hard to see who this was supposed to appeal to, the kiddy-show style animation jarring against the "mature" (ha) content. I remember seeing a video of a promo for this which was made beforehand, apparently and the character designs were rounder and more cartoony, which was even more "off".

It just looks like "bog standard" late 1990s/early 2000s outsourced animation, on par with, say, the Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer special.

Specifically the era when digital ink-and-paint was still fairly new and everything looked a bit too bright and saturated and there wasn't much nuance with the colours the way there was with traditional cel animation.

It’s 2018 and Power FX is releasing vocaloids that look like they were made in the Sims:

Also, distasteful use of the dispersion tool.

I saw Corneil and Bernie couple of times a long ass time ago. For some reason it reminded me of corndogs covered in macaroni n cheese and it made me hate it even more.
The arts atrocious
The plot is what you'd expect from this kind of cartoon, it's just some blue haired twat that takes care of some British fart huffing dog and they have "wiiiiild and whackkyyy adventures"

The black dude looks like a Resident Evil 5 majini.

Any humanoid character with that kind of lips is automatically bad design to me.

LOL when they were released some SJW vocaweebs went "#YASSSS BLACK REPRESENTASHUUUUN" and forgot about them the next day.

Also, while we're on the topic of shitty designed PowerFX Vocaloids:

Let’s not forget about the time PowerFX released their own design for Ruby without the voice provider’s approval:

She looks like a butch lesbo.

There are people that actually fap to that character. I just want you to think about that for a minute.

I actually don't mind the character designs in Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer that much, I only posted that as an example of early digital ink-and-paint making everything look too "bright", although the colours don't look too out of place in that specific sequence since it is a tropical-themed fantasy.

Are they supposed to look like they’re being destroyed by Thanos?
But they aren't,
Every time I play FFX I pretend this faggot doesn't exist and either Auron or Yuna is the MC.

Yuna IS the main character, Tidus role was the last party member who's major role was to stop her from repeating her dad mistake and he helped in other ways but it's not his story

Edit: I guess this is an unpopular opinion, but I stand by it. Talk about shitty mid-00's CGI. Only the character on the right looks even remotely life-like... And even then, it's bordering on uncanny valley. I for one am glad current technology has greatly surpassed this.

PreCure is full of really gaudy offputting designs but Cure Melody's is the one that really sticks out to me

I dunno, that's quite detailed hair for a Toei franchise show budget though I haven't seen any Pretty Cure other than the first series so I don't know how well that "messy" hair translates to animation.

It reminds me of the character designs in Super GALS!, although the Gals! manga upon which the anime was based was rooted strongly in late 1990s/early 2000s Shibuya and Harajuku "kogal" culture, so the gaudiness was intentional.

I'm still not sure if Zoids Wild's designs are brilliant or shit.
