The designs of the Justice League in that Superpets movie that's coming out are...not the best. Superman, Batman and the Flash don't look too bad, but why the half-fro on Cyborg? Why does Aquaman look like a weird cosplayer (and the feet creep me out)? Green Lantern looks like another case of 'woman with that weird side-shaved haircut and strange proportions'. And someone pointed out that Wonder Woman looks like her ass is on back to front, and now I can't unsee that.

Yep she's a child, and she's just as annoying as she looks. The movie itself is fine, even quite sweet in places, but some parts with her are just...awful. Her solo song for example was painful to hear, and even the monkey was desperate to get away from her for most of the movie.

They actually made a preteen look like an adult troon. That's kind of an accomplishment

The first one is especially baffling to me when you take into consideration that her love interest actually looks like a grown adult. There's nothing wrong with the design, it just looks kind of boring and the artstyle doesn't do it any favors.

Her love interest in the show is a mountain of a man, and the joke is that she's a tiny petite woman while he's a giant that's 6' 5" that has the build of a body builder instead of a normal scrawny anime character. It's also one that actually writes her character like a person as I worked with someone like that before and she had a lot of the same insecurities and mannerisms.

One of the most overdesigned characters I've seen in a while. Take note that her shirt is one weird panel over her front that is held by two cords to a similar panel on the back. If only the shirt was normal and the blue crystals on her head removed, it'd be a lot better.

I genuinely like the staff though. Maybe she'd also look better if her outfit stuck closer to the weapon's colour scheme. All the different shades of purple and blue just clash.

Why does every cool, alien (?) creature design keep getting boiled down to 'bald man/plain human but with additions', in this case, scars?

I wish creators would make their fantasy races and humanoid aliens more… otherworldly.

I don’t mind if they’re human-like, but this is supposed to be fiction. Be creative, you know?

I don’t know what it is about gacha games that always make them gravitate towards character designs that are an overcomplicated mess that might look good if they were toned down like, 2-3 levels of detail.

They're trying to swindle you of all your money so making characters look as cool or sexy as possible to the point of overdoing it hardcore. Hence gaudy shit, oversized weapons, dumb outfits, fetish pandering, pedo bait, etc.

They also have loads of competition, so they have to make characters look "unique" to stand out. Unfortunately, there are many more ways to do that badly than there are to do it well.

Actually, who the fuck is that "Green Lantern," and why is she associated with the Justice League at all? Couldn't they pick Hal or John, who are the two GLs that most people know?

I get they were going for a "wild child" type of character, but my biggest gripe with it is the hair. I think they should've just went with one solid hairstyle rather than just fusing every hairstyle known to mankind.

I don’t know what it is about gacha games that always make them gravitate towards character designs that are an overcomplicated mess that might look good if they were toned down like, 2-3 levels of detail.

They're trying to make their characters appeal to as many people as possible by piling on details and colours. It preys on weeb's innate bad fashion sense to trick them into thinking the game is cool.

I think some gacha games manage to have unique character designs or at least stand out from other titles like Cookie Run and Genshin Impact, but for the most part it boils down to artstyle and even those titles have some cluttered designs.

I think the opposite end of the spectrum would be western gachas, as they tend to have incredibly generic, cookie cutter character designs. What remies both issues would probably be basing the gacha off of an existing IP so the most they can do is give a character a bikini costume to buy in the shop.

True. There's also a balancing issue because every gacha has so many freaking characters. You can only do so much with each archetype before it gets samey. Even the games with nice art styles use the same faces/bodies for all the cast, which probably makes it harder.

I can imagine the artists going, "oh shit, we need to roll out more legendary-tier waifus, let's just make them super frilly and shit so the players know they're important." Or they go the Fate route and just make glorified recolours. I don't know much about Western gachas but they do look incredibly dull, I imagine that blends together for the opposite reason.
