What Are You Craving? - A Sister Thread to What Are You Eating/Cooking?

beef stew in red wine with a side of ratatouille.

I don't have any eggplants or beef chuck. Also too cold for any meticulous cooking that requires cutting things in slices.

But I really do want some hearty meat-based soup with a bit of that tomato tang and some crunchy savory veggies that aren't 90% green.

I wish I lived in a place where you could get a decent malted milkshake, as it is hard to get the consistency right if you do it at home without a shake mixer.

Also, I have always wondered...why have malts gotten so hard to find? They were everywhere during the boomer generation of my parents, but as an elder millennial, it is hard to come by a place that still makes malted milkshakes even if you can get regular milkshakes everywhere.

Is it a chicken-and-egg thing? I.e. a lot of people my age and younger do not know what a "malt" is and so never ask for it, so a lot of places do not make them anymore since nobody every orders them? I do not know.

I used to go to this deli to get a $6 sub that was basically a whole loaf of French bread loaded with cheese, a pound of good bologna, horseradish mayo, and pepperocini. Dunno why but I'm fucking dying for one right now. Sadly I would need to find real good bologna instead of that shit they sell for a buck at Walmart to make one.

Round Table Pizza, it's been a good while since I've ordered any. I really appreciate that my dad makes pizza from scratch for us especially since after his years working in a shitty Italian restaurant I'd expect that making pizza would trigger at least some PTSD, but sometimes I just want to eat a shittier, greasier, pizza made with less love.

There's this German chocolate called Kaffee Sahne, it's a thin-ish slab of milk chocolate with brick-like bumps of white chocolate on top with some kind of milky coffee flavoring. It's been my favorite chocolate for like 20 years when my late grandma used to buy it for me. The whole bar weighs 200g and it's so good I could eat the whole thing at once.

I'm not in Germany and it's really really hard to find over here, but makes it feel like much more of a win when I do.

A plate of my mom’s bierocks. Haven’t had them in quite some time and fuckin’ A they are some of my favorite foods.

Problem being I live quite a distance from my mom now, so only really see her on holidays. She’s also getting on in years and doesn’t do much cooking anymore, and is one of those stubborn old women that will take their recipes to the grave apparently so I can’t just make them myself.

I want to catch some crawdads this summer man. Been so long since I've boiled some of those lake bugs up. Bring some butter and cocktail sauce out, catch a few buckets full, and dig in.

Black sesame ice cream. It’s a pain to find except in Asian supermarkets if I’m lucky. It’s delicious, so nutty and toasty. I love peanut butter ice cream but it’s just not the same.

Just had me a bin in New Orleans. Bad season, so very expensive, but very worth it..

Fried squid tentacles. It has been years since I have eaten it.
I just made some fried calamari at home for the first time, it is so easy I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. It is so much more tender when you make it at home because usually the restaurants give you frozen squid. Here is the video that made finally give it a shot. Simple and easy.
