What are you reading right now?

Not surprising after the most recent Mistborn ended with Wax’s (five year old) son going “I don’t like girls, I wanna get BUTTFUCKED by a BOY!”
nigga what the fuck are you talking about?

I’m 25% in, and ohmygod you’re right. The scene with the Sibling (a tower) coming out as non-binary? Ludicrous. It’s a building.
Technically buildings don't have genders. I guess? Whatever, not a big deal, just annoying hearing the Sibling always voiced by a woman, bonded with a woman, talks about people being INSIDE HER, but uses they/them pronouns? Its a woman tower, that's my headcanon.
Why go to the effort of making Jasnah and Wit bang but then underscore that Jasnah isn’t into sex? It’s bizarre. How did this drive her as a character or further the plot? Are we being set up for her to enjoy sex in 1000 pages? It seems like Sanderson wanted the installments to feel more “adult”, so he included (irrelevant, unsexy) coitus like how children will cuss to seem cool and grown-up to their friends.

I wish BS would go back to being an unapologetically conservative Mormon.
The sheer amount of fan service so far has been insane. Am I crazy for thinking that Sando is gonna have Kaladin and Syl fuck? After she went TMI with her anatomy, I have a sneaking suspicion.....

Thankfully, the rest of the book still has the worldbuilding, complex magic systems, and fun action.

Even if it was actually pozzed beyond redemption... Fuck, I'd still read it. I'm too invested at this point.

It’s in The Lost Metal, the last book from the second era of Sanderson’s Mistborn series. I got that one on audible too, so I don’t have any way of directly quoting it here, but at the very end of the book Waxillium(the main character, if you’re unfamiliar) is with his wife and son after saving the day and the son(again, a 5 year old boy) makes some comment about stories where the hero saves the day and gets the girl not making sense because he doesn’t like girls.

It’s at the absolute last moment of the book and came from so far out of left field I could only laugh at the absurdity. The way it’s just thrown in apropos of nothing was such obvious pandering that I couldn’t even be mad.

OH I do remember that!
I took that more of a 5 year old thinking girls are gross, as most 5 year olds do.
Maybe I'm just not fag-pilled enough to catch it? Either way, I completely forgot about it until you brought it up.
I hope this is not indicative of the quality for Mistborn Era 3.

I want to give an update. When people I like online stop posting for a long period I get a little bit worried that they’ve disappeared, so I don’t want to create that in others. This is kind of a blog so I’ve included the gist of it.

TL;DR: Videos are on the back burner right now because my life is really good and I’m taking time to enjoy it. I’ll get back to working on RS more consistently in time.

There have been long gaps between videos before, but that was always due to trouble with putting the next video together, or because it was a massive project. Neither the FM video, or the TWEWY video are like that. I love both scripts so far, and I have tons of fun working with them. But I haven’t been focused as much on RS this past year. Since the Klonoa video, I have stopped spending as much time online because my life has become incredible. I’ve reached some significant milestones in the past two years that have changed my outlook in a fundamental way. I’ve never been healthier, my body is stronger than it’s ever been, and my diet has shifted completely to home-cooked, wholesome meals. Professionally, I’m thriving in software development, making more money than I ever could have dreamed of. I wake up every morning next to a woman who has supported me and loved me since we were teenagers. I have a sense of peace at every moment, like my body is constantly able to relax. I don’t understand why I have any of this shit, I have never deserved it, so I just want to enjoy myself in the moment and spend it with the people I hold so dear.

I consider RS to be one of the coolest things I’ve worked on, it’s such a great feeling to get to write and make these videos with my closest friends, and it’s so cool to me how much people enjoy them. I think I need to find new motivation for them though. RS was always driven from this place of unrest towards how internet videos were changing because of monetization and the growing internet population. I have a very clear idea of how videos should be. Look up any let’s play from 2011 and before (Ex. “Let’s play Super Mario 64 before:2011”) You’ll find tons of videos from people with terrible microphones, some of them pointing cameras at their TV. Their commentary is all improvised, and it’s usually clumsy. They try their best to be informative, but stumble over themselves, or they try to make a joke that doesn’t really land. I love these guys, maybe some of them had delusions of getting popular, but for the most part, they did videos for fun. People were just enjoying the novelty of being able to record themselves playing a game, and I think monetization really corrupted things. I was fed up with how it was affecting content in 2015, so by this point, now that recommendation algorithms have matured, I can’t stand it at all. I liked when I used to have to look for somebody talking about something I liked, and stumble upon a great channel with 200 subs. Channels are now so formulated and sanitized, all for the purpose of trying to optimize their chances at getting their video seen by one new person. Sure, there are people making simple content like in 2011, but there is always this goal now of eventually monetizing, or growing your channel, it is insanely rare to find somebody creating videos out of pure enjoyment for the act of making something, and I don’t think the modern internet is an environment that allows for the same freedom of expression that existed back then.

The internet population has doubled in the past decade, which has completely changed everything about it. The culture on the internet used to be more diverse, but has now completely homogenized. People used to be more open through anonymity, but nowadays worry about their online prestige as if it was a real reputation. This kills the ability to be daring and experimental, instead, everybody is extremely on-edge, and this extends to the videos being made. People can’t make an innocent joke without doing some bit afterwards to be preemptively deprecating towards themselves because they don’t want to stick their chest out and risk having somebody make fun of them for a genuine attempt at anything. Even channels I watch that used to have more edge and bite to them all seem to be in a competition for who can make the most dry and boring video possible on really fun games.

When working on RS, we always noticed and went against these things, trying to be as anti-growth as possible, especially after the THUG video got some initial attention. On several instances, we’ve let Youtube pick the thumbnail instead of creating a custom one. Titles for RS vids are meant to be as uninteresting as possible. We put crude jokes near the beginning of most videos to get people to stop watching who think it’s serious. The raunchy and insensitive jokes themselves serve a purpose of discouraging Youtube from promoting the videos as much. I think I used to want to show people the joy of making videos when you detach yourself from caring about internet popularity and monetization, but I now think that even time is a problem. All social media sites have the goal of keeping people on them as long as possible, and I don’t want to contribute to that by making extremely long videos. I’m not sure what will happen after we finish the TWEWY review, but if we keep going, I’d like to keep RS videos under 40 minutes or so. I’d want to focus on making things more dense and entertaining, instead of just trying to be comprehensive. I want to make really fun videos that encourage people to actually engage with things. If you talk about something and your enthusiasm rubs off on the audience, that’s great, even if it’s just getting them to watch a TV show or play some game. At this point, any time not spent on social media is time well spent.

I’ll be back on the horse again sometime soon, and when I stream in the future, there will always be some updates on the prestream so you guys aren’t in the dark. I’m very grateful for how warm and kind the audience of RS is, and I want to repay you all with more great videos in the future. Take things easy!

Dies The Fire

basically all of civilization collapses due to all electricity and gunpowder no longer working and we get sweet *** medieval combat making a comeback and return to feudalism one of the rulers is literally just this history buff who literally just plays out his fantasy of declaring himself the dark Lord he literally takes the as his flag

Counterinsurgency in Africa: The Portuguese Way of War. As the title indicates, the book is focused on Portugal's counterinsurgency strategy and doesn't examine the African and Cuban side of the wars in much detail. There are other books that deal with that, but it's obviously a challenge for many writers because of how convoluted and murky their stories are. A lot of information is still locked away in Cuban state archives.

It's The Bestiality Trilogy by Margaret "Robin Hobb" Lindholm Ogden, an international bestseller and a genre classic.
Update: I'm quitting this shit, at ~700 pages and 595 notes (each note marks something either unpublishably horrific or plot- and setting-breaking).

There's a consent accident involving a dog midway through book 2.
If you're thinking, "this is just your brain on reddit", "looking throught a queer lens", "superhero secret identity is a metaphor for being in the closet" -- there's no metaphor, it's plaintext:
  • Eric Trump advises Bestiality's girlfriend to break up, so as not to be grossly humiliated
  • Bestiality considers himself "betrayed" by Eric despite them being sworn enemies5963
  • Bestiality breaks into her room, reconciles with her and they fuck
  • it turns out that, unbeknowst to the girlfriend, it actually was a threesome between Bestiality, the girlfriend, and his pet wolf
  • he thinks, "should I tell her?.. nah, I don't want her to realize she'd been permanently dirtied, she'd hate herself"
  • he decides to quit dogfucking "tomorrow" (but not immediately, today he's just not ready) and marry her

TL;DR Eric was right and tried to save the girl. From chapter titles at the beginning of the book, I assume he will be killed in a painful and humiliating way for this.
Also the pooner (the character female fans self-insert as) has a fart fetish.

The real allegory is "conservatives are rape zombies". Despite being a 1996 book, it's thoroughly woke in a very modern way and revels in modern woke tics: the contrived justification for killing your own people for fun, the pretend egalitarianism and fetishization of royal blood and royal titles, the xenophilia/patriophobia, the skitzo race swap to decenter whiteness that result in bad racist shitskins and sainted whites, the hatred of women and female-on-female whorehouse revenge fantasies.

And like modern wokeshit, it doesn't have a plot (not the three-act, not any other kind of structure) or any sense of plausibility, it's a series of loosely connected scenes which make the author's pussy tingle. Conservatives are evil, so they need to be portrayed eating a toddler. Why is there a toddler lost in the middle of a frozen forest? Because it needs to be eaten. How does a guy get dressed, saddle his horse, call for guards, and reach said toddler in 15 seconds? Because he needs to be there to asspat Bestiality. Why can't he get wounded and lie in the forest for a couple hours until a search party can realistically find him? Because the author is retarded.

Her works as Hobb have been commercially successful: the first three sub-series of the Realm of the Elderlings had sold more than a million copies by 2003, and at the time of the series' conclusion in 2017, more than 1.25 million copies had been sold in the UK alone. As of 2018, Hobb's fiction has been translated into 22 languages and sold more than 4 million copies in France.
That's a lot of dogfuckers.

They're apparently making a third season of The Terror and it's based on The Devil In Silver by Victor LaValle. Makes me interestes, is it worth a read? Premise sounds kinda interesting.

Recently finished Dear Reader: The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong Il by Michael Malice. It's ok, but it's basically just Kim Jong Il sucking his own dick and making up bullshit. Kinda interesting if you want to know how a psycho narcissist with insane delusions thinks.

What makes you think this hohol has the slightest clue how Kim Jong-Il thinks?

It's all based on books written by the North Korean government about KJI and his life. His book about the rise and fall of the USSR was really good and had solid sources for everything so I doubt he's entirely bullshitting.

Completed A Scanner Darkly. It was decent. The overall premise is that in a near future US, illicit drug usage has continually increased and a new, more damaging drug, Substance D, has become prevalent and mixed into all other drugs. The police have undercover agents everywhere looking for busts and they wear "scramble suits" that conceal their identities from all other cops. These undercover agents rig suspected dealers homes with surveillance scanners. The book drew heavily from Phillip K Dicks experience when he opened his home to drug addicts in the 1970s and as such has a lot of scenes of bizarre conversations between the addicts and displays their paranoid and illogical thought processes. It's kind of a bummer overall, but I greatly enjoyed seeing so much 1970's slang constantly utilized. Dick seems overall

I just started watching that show, and I am worried about too much supernatural stuff creeping in. The story of what happened to the Terror and the Erebus is grim enough as it is, and the show's views of the ships trapped in the pack ice and the bleak, Mars-like surface of King William's Land do plenty to induce a feeling of dread and foreboding in me.

Did you know Kim Jong-Il never golfed without getting multiple holes in one?

Just finished Hillbilly Elegy - decent but kind of boring. Now I'm reading The Christmas Pig (JK Rowling) with my daughter.

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Me and my sister are going to see the movie sometime soon, so I'm reading this book before I go and watch.

Let me save you some time: the book is utter shite, the wicked witch spends her entire life trying to help people who despise her for no reason, and then she dies just as pointlessly as she lived. The prose is crap, the premise poor, the pacing uneven, and every single character is some form of cunt, even the ones who are dicks. You're welcome.

I'm reading The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld, The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber, and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? by Henry Farrell.

The Enchanted I first read a ways back and had mixed feelings about. The mixture of grimy prison life and the chimeric hallucinations of an insane death row prisoner is jarring, but there are some compelling characters and scenes that I would have very much liked to see more of. Hopefully this second read through will help me make up my mind.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? is really, really good so far. Despite it being published in the 1960s, Farrell has a keen grasp of the psychological effects of stardom and the pressure of being the family bread and butter when a child hasn't even begun to lose her baby teeth. Jane is an awful individual, but it's impossible not to feel sorry for her... even though she's just started murdering people. It's hard to feel sorry for Blanche even though I should.

The Crimson Petal is one of my favourite books and I generally reread it once or twice a year. One of the best things about it is how the time period comes alive. Faber must have spent an incomprehensibly long time researching it.

I am not having that great of a time, honestly. The only vaguely interesting thing is how it's used as a metaphor for WW2, but it's somehow both half-assed and extremely heavy-handed. But I'm nearing the end of the book, so I figure I might as well power through. Maybe I'll pirate the musical after to see how they change it.

From what I understand, the musical is wildly different. Never read the book, but have seen the stage production of the musical several times.

I just finished A Gentleman in Moscow. Took me like 4 months. The prose is very good but I just struggle to get through low-stakes, "cozy" books. I saw a lot of people complaining that it wasn't historically accurate and I think that's beside the point.

Finished a couple things over the past month:

Dracula (1897) - This is fantastic from start to finish and I was fully hooked even after the first 4 chapters, I loved the sense of them all closing in on the count while they hunted him in England and how intense the the final struggle is to finish him off.

Border Trilogy - After I finished ATPH I went and did The Crossing and Cities of the Plain. And I legit think the Crossing is one of my favourite works of art of all time, it was INCREDIBLE from start to finish and the ending is such a gut wrencher. COTP is also really good, but I just wish the first half wasn’t so slow - but hooooo boy did this ending hit even harder. I literally just sat on it for a couples days it was that good. 10/10 Trilogy

Alice in Wonderland - This was a good breather after reading the BT lol. I just wish I had grown up with this one, cause I just know I woulda been enraptured by the illustrations and just plain old weirdness as to what unfolds. First half was dull, but I found the second really charming.

Currently reading The Dispossessed by Ursuala K Le Guin at the recommendation from a friend and I think the prose is really solid and I love the concepts put forth, the book is just so. fucking. boring. that I just ain’t sure I’ll continue - even though part of me really wants to go on. (Currently on Chapter 4)

Next up after this is War and Peace just cause I’m real curious as to what it’s like, themes or contents.
