what are your specs?

update: my pc is still pretty much the same specs as before, however, ive upped my ram from 8 gigabytes to 24.

I had a GTX 970 that had 4 GB (actually 3.5 GB, and 512 megs of slightly slower VRAM for some odd reason). But I see what you mean. I only have 16 GB main RAM and my current card (GTX 1080 Ti) has 11 GB. But the answer to your question is, I'm told, the same reason why games nowadays are so yuge - Greedfall, 35 GB; Doom Eternal 45 GB; Metro Exodus 72 GB; Kingdom Come Deliverance 68 GB; Total Warhammer II 57 GB; Horizon Zero Dawn 72 GB - textures.

An image that's 320*200, 8 bit colour (i.e. VGA) is 64 kilobytes. That's not much. But make it true colour (32 bit colour) and it quadruples in size. Expand it to 1280*800 and its size hexadecuples as well, going from 64 KB to 4 MB. A true colour image in 4K is 31.64 MB.

Then add to that that in a 3D view you might be loading in and displaying tens or even hundreds of different textures on many different objects in view, and the space required explodes.

Unfortunately, data compression algorithms haven't improved in the same way as the space requirements for images.

That being said, I'm told that games like COD have uncompressed audio in their files. Fhat the wuck. FLAC exists, people. Use it.
Did you get in on that class action lawsuit from years ago because of that 3.5GB not 4GB?
Verified owners of those 970s got $30 each GPU from Nvidia.

no 2x4gb and 2x8gb. was a bitch to get working proper and i could only get my ram to 2866mhz

Yeah it's lowest common settings I suppose. Is it an Intel system though? They had a funky setup where you could get dual channel speeds out of mismatched sizes up to a point, I don't know about AMD though.

My computer is showing it's age; I don't game so it's not terrible, but even just browsing certain sites can cause the CPU and RAM to spike

- Core i3 7350k
- DDR4 16gb @ 2400
- GTX 1050
- Asus z270 extreme 3 Sli/AC
- 128gb Samsung 840 SSD

I plan to completely overhaul my build in Mid-February of next year with this:

- Ryzen 3600
- DDR4 32gb @ 3600
- Asus ROG B450-F
- WD 500GB NVMe SSD

I'm debating whether or not to upgrade my graphics card, is it worth it if you don't do any gaming?

My PC is from 2016 but still runs really well, remember to change the thermal paste every year if you're having performance troubles. I neglected it for 3 years and didn't realize my CPU was running at 95c all the time.

GTX 970
i5-6500 3.2gz
16gb of ram

does anything else really matter?

Hm. Can you run a memory benchmark test to check your bandwidth? I'm honestly very curious.
not atm im currently downloading a 100% totally legal copy of red dead 2 which is currently eating my ram like pussy. however, i will note that upping my voltage allowed me to reach 2866mhz from the stock 2400(its 3000mhz ram as advertised)

At worst you might have to bump around the settings to get it to 3000mhz, timings between kits is what might keep it down. If you have a minute to spare at some point in the future PM me because I'm really curious about the memory performance with that setup and I'll link you to some programs.

Ryzen 5 3400G
RTX 2060
8GB RAM
Windows 10

How shit is this setup? From what I'm given to understand it should be able to run most modern games decently.

SFF Dell PC
Core i5-3570 with integrated Intel HD Graphics 2500.
16GB 12800U SDRAM.
No hard drive.
Linux Mint 19.3 {live session user}

And that's my general purpose and shitposting PC's specs.
I don't do PC gaming.

ive purchased a 1060 6gb off ebay for like 180 bucks, including shipping and taxes. not sure if i was ripped off with that price, but whatever, it'll be better than a 750 ti. i'll probably hold onto the 750 ti in the event things dont go right with the card and i need a backup

My computer is a Dell Inspiron prebuilt (model 3881, to be specific). The specs are actually alright for general normie internet use and basic office applications, but I’ll have to make some upgrades in the form of a beefier power supply, dedicated graphics card and maybe a second stick of RAM if I wanna play vidya on this thing.

CPU: i5 10400
Mobo: ????? (I know how many slots and ports it has but could not find an exact model name/number anywhere in the usage manual/bios/device information and have yet to open the thing up to check)
RAM: 1 x 8GB DDR4 (2666mhz)
GPU: Intel UHD 630 Integrated Graphics
Storage: 256GB M.2 SSD, 1TB 3.5” hard drive
Power Supply: my dad said it’s 260w but idk the exact make yet

I have Windows 10 since it came pre-installed.

seeing as it's an inspiron prebuilt, it's probably proprietary anyway. power supply as well most likely. so upgrading the power supply probably wont be an option unless there's space for it and even then you need a converter connecter as it probably doesnt use standard 24 pin power. as for the gpu it's gonna need to be pretty low power for a 260w psu, so idk like a 1650 low profile. itx cards might fit if there's space
