A phenomena that has existed since forever and has ingrained itself into internet culture since last Wednesday, what really is the cause of it?

  1. Emotion? (That you don't have)
  2. Personal feelings? (Which yours don't matter)
  3. Culture? (Which includes defecation on street corners, for some reason)
  4. Ego? (lol calm down)
  5. Or, some other?
That nagging feeling of contradicting someone or something that either causes you to be smarter than the average gay bear, or so retarded that you have to be pretending, because nobody can be that exceptionally brain dead.

Contrarains come from blue states or Europe, they're basically animals, disregard their opinion and move on.

It's funny, I've always essentially been an inherent contrarian except when it comes to hard/scientific facts. As a kid someone would say something and I would respond with "Well, what about ZXY?". I think I've always done it because I like to consider all perspectives on an issue. Thinking of something in a single way to me seems like very 1 dimensional thinking.

So, for me, it comes from a curiosity/creativity perspective.

Various different reasons, although I'll explain my take.

Personally, its not because I think my opinion is better than anyone else. I just find most things average and not worth the praise. I want to give things I think deserve praise the praise they deserve. Sometimes, the public is right to think one thing is great or horrible and when credit is due, I'll agree with the consensus, such as Breaking Bad being a damn good show.

Granted, I know what you mean. A lot of crap is just "meh" and isn't worth much of the hype. We might have differing perspectives as to what, but the principle is there.

If you're deliberately contrarian about everything, it's a great way to farm attention by going into communities with mainstream opinions and posting your contrarian takes, so that people will call you a retard. Responding with "lol ur mad" to prove to yourself that you are a "master of trolling" is optional.
