Red or black have the same odds of landing, but because of the presence of at least one zero on the wheel, that puts the odds of either one below 50%, hence the house edge.

There's 18 red and 18 black numbers. There's also 1-3 green zeroes that are treated as individual numbers, although having 3 zeroes is uncommon outside of Vegas.

If you bet on red or black, it's a straight up double or nothing bet in terms of what you get paid, however, because of the green zero(es) on the wheel, it's not a true 50/50 bet.
