At the risk of sounding like a heretic:
Throughout my own (quite extensive at this point) research into the matter - it's suggested across countless near-death testimonies (from the theist and atheist alike), religious/spiritual texts (spanning a myriad of different faiths from Ancient Egyptian to Hinduism to Christianity, etc), and channeled works (Seth, Bashar, etc) that you will continue on after death. It is nothing to be feared.
Most commonly? You get to hang around a bit in whatever situation you believe results after death. Some examples:
If you believe you're going to a Christian Heaven? You'll enjoy floating around in unchanging eternal bliss..until you realize how incredibly boring it is and come around.
If, instead, you believe you're going to Hell? Well, you'll go spend some time torturing yourself in whatever iteration of "hell" you believe is most appropriate.
Perhaps you fancy yourself an atheist and believe nothing happens at all? Or you return to the proverbial void? Well, surprise - you'll enjoy vacationing in nothingness for a while.
If you're still coming around to the idea that you are..you know, dead? You may be a surprise unseen guest at your own funeral.
Eventually, you typically get guided towards what's really going on via whatever means works for you. One near-death experiencer reported witnessing "The Mother Mary" descending into "Hell" to free them from their torturers, for instance. Again: it's ultimately up to what you believe. An Ethiopian Jew is likely not going to meet Krishna anymore than a Finnish Pagan would meet Quetzalcoatl.
To reiterate: regardless of the scenario, there are plenty of references suggesting you will continue existing. You'll simply be in another form beyond the physical.
Edit: For those interested in further reading from our very own kiwis on this and very similar matters - we had a thread on the paranormal a while back where some users shared their (or their loved ones) experiences on the matter. I'd recommend skimming it for tidbits related to the interest shown here.
