What do you live for? - What keeps you going through thick and thin?

MATI streams.

I geuss harnessing the very essence of the cosmos too, but mostly MATI streams.

Pigeons are a big one. I don't have any obligation towards them, but their continued existence in the world brings me a kind of joy and willingness to carry on that I've yet to find elsewhere.

Also the expansive and existential joy of being able to observe the world around you, and to take in what majesty it all brings. To be little eyes in a great big universe is something special.

I keep living because I want to live as long as I can. Not just that, but even if the world gets way shittier than it is now, I see no reason to just end it all when theres always the chance for things to get better. Besides if you end it all now you can’t see that better future now can you?

God said set forth and multiply. I took it to mean get riches and bitches. I like those things so I stick around.

I can't remember who said this, maybe Trevelyan from one of the histories I've read; but the expression 'the purpose of life is to create something which will outlast it' has, admittedly, many interpretations. From something as simple as procreation, to writing an important novel. You could easily say it could be something much, much simpler than that.

I recently visited Norwich cathedral, and came across the tomb of Thomas Gooding. A virtual unknown, his inscription reads (above an image of a skeleton in a vaguely human shape:)

All you that do this pass bye

Remember death for you must dye

As you are now even so was I

And as I am so shall you be

Thomas Gooding here do staye

Wayting for God’s judgement day

Remember that you will die. My personal choice of 'memoranda' will be literature, and, hopefully, a son.

Because my life has gone in many unexpected directions and I want to see what happens next.

Are you Rhys McKinnon?

My very existence causes pain to a lot of absolutely atrocious people, and I think that's hilarious.

It's not much, but it's enough.
