Harry Potter was well written with good world-building but I wish it had been more about whimsical magical students growing up and finding joy in a fantastic world and less about driven child soldiers fighting tooth and nail against an evil wizard and his powerful army against the backdrop of a world gone mad. Even the Black Cauldron books gave Taran some time off to go learn pottery between harrowing life and death adventures, and they were set in prehistoric "kill em all and make zombies of their corpses" Briton not contemporary "tea and biscuits and the Daily Telegraph" Britain.
