What game did you finish today?

E.V.O.: The Theory of Evolution for the NEC PC-9801. If that name sounds familiar, it is sort of a prequel to E.V.O.: The Search for Eden. Unlike the latter where it's a sidescroller, it's an RPG where you journey through a few billion years to evolve and survive. It's a bit darker than SfE. You kill other creatures to get points to evolve but take caution to not reach an 'evolutionary dead end' game over.

-Start as fish, hang with other fish until a flash of light causes them to hate you. You fuck off and begin killing other fish to evolve.
-Gaia takes notice and begins to act as your cheerleader, helping you at some points. You eventually become land-worthy.
-You begin to evolve some more and see lizard-like aliens, The Lunarians, beginning to poke around for some reason, influenced by Lucifer (Not making it up), who wiped out other civilizations in the system, including The Martians and making the asteroid belt out of the fifth planet. She hates Gaia out of jealousy.
-Lucifer eventually decides to cause an eclipse to wipe out life but Gaia tells you to hide in a cave. You come out later and evolve into a dinosaur. You see Marilyn Monr-er, I mean Lucifer, for the first time and is like "Join or Die." You tell that bitch to piss off but she gets butthurt enough to try to wipe out everything again with an asteroid. Fails.
-You emerge after the smoke clears, and see that humanoids (dino men, elves, gnomes, dragon men (Yeah, lol)) have emerged. The Lunarians come back but splintered. One faction, Atlanteans, follows Lucifer (Using an alias), while The Mu, don't. They go to war and The Mu decides to leave Earth and leave other life alone, not before wiping out The Atlanteans and sink them. Lucifer decides to square up with you but gets BTFO'd. You then become a human and begin your rule over earth.
-60,000 years later, you've become an anime-like sage planetary leader and Lucifer decides to come back and kick your ass, which she does at first but Gaia tells you to get the fuck up. You both merge and kick Lucifer's ass, atomizing her, and essentially initiate Third Impact where you also take the whole planet along.

It was a bit of a trippy experience but one I liked. An old gem for sure.

The game this time is Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Duel Academy. Obtaining the rank of "King of Games" is the what leads to the credits, but as per all collectible trading cards, the path to the ultimate rank is marred with needless bullshit.

I'm talking about fighting everyone who's available normally 10 times. The game does not track individual wins against the other characters, so that shit's on you, and that's what led me to restart the my first file and go through it all over again. Thankfully, I kept track with Notepad.

Then, there is the matter of collecting all of cards available in the game, which along with the 10 battles each with everyone, feels as if the game wants to artificially increase its playtime. There are 1,200 cards in total, and the shop sells booster packs, which of course is wrapped up in a gacha bow. Yeah, no. Got a code for infinite points for the shop, and just went at it until I got to 100% with the cards.

Overall, great game for where the GX anime was at the time. The starter water deck I improved upon over time served me quite well.

*lol, congratulation.

Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. Probably my least favourite game from the all in one collection I've played so far apart from Chain of Memories which I gave up on altogether. The combat was fun and I didn't mind the Dream Eaters, but apart from Symphony of Sorcery and Prankster's Paradise, the worlds all felt huge and lifeless and getting through them felt like a slog. Also, Young Xehanort was every bit as much of a pain in the arse as I'd been warned. Fuck that boss fight.

I've been binging the entirety of Black Mesa over the past few days. (The fan made remake of Half-Life 1). A pretty fantastic experience overall. The difference between Xen in the old game and this one is like night and day. The dev team really went all out to flesh out Xen and make it satisfying to play through. Some parts I think could have been trimmed down a bit, but otherwise, I can't complain.

I should do that, because Xen was the absolute shittiest part of the original HL1, a huge disappointment if you've ever played through an otherwise excellent game.

To be honest, I didn't really mind Xen when I first played it, but the version in Black Mesa really blew it out of the water.

Just a heads up though, it's long. Like, I think it takes up a good 25-30% of the game I feel.

Recettear.

Really a fun game, and I liked how the story mode rolled over to endless mode once you finished it. Though without having tried it yet I venture the lack of debt payments will make the game boring very quickly.

There is survival mode that addresses that, adding more payments every week. I might give that a whirl.

Kotodama: The 7 mysteries of Fujisawa. A visual novel/puzzle game similar to HuniePop. The story gets surprisingly downbeat and has a few twists. Not bad for a $10 game.

Not a beaten game but I've put 200 hours into swords of legends online. It's pretty good. It's basically Chinese ff14 with no subscription.

Beat Kotor 2 again. Even with the Restored content mod and the M4-78 planet added back in its still a jank as heck mess that was softlocked several times.

Things like this below were extremely common and I also accidentally found a way out of the map in the Nar Shadaa Bar. Note the Cinematic camera actor on the right:

The colonists on M4-78 did not die due to the radiation, they died because it was literal a 15 mile walk even with Force Speed to get anywhere and extremely boring. One of the few times something being cut from a game made sense. The Patrol droids to fast travel you from place to place were helpful once I actually got to the areas they were located.

No idea why the Restored content mod team didn't just copy paste KOTOR 1's fast travel system back into the game since most things are interchangeable in between the two games.

i always avoid installing M4-78 since i always heard bad things about it.

Borderlands GOTY Edition for me (the Xbox One/PS4 version). While the game is certainly the driest of the series (vanilla game at least, haven't tried the DLCs yet), I still had a good time playing as Brick, especially when his kill skills activate. I'm currently rushing through Playthrough 2 to get everything leveled, at which point I'll give the DLCs a spin.

Not gonna lie, I wish there was a way to get everything attached to your level at the start of these games, or at least have a way to start True Vault Hunter Mode with other characters. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy this series enough to do multiple playthroughs, but having to start from scratch with a new class kind of turns me off from trying them.

This skyrim mod turned stand alone game called The Forgotten City. You travel to the past, try to help the people there, someone breaks the sin and it's a spaceballs escape pod scramble back to the temple time portal. Characters I actually liked, discussing theology and roman/greek philosophy, dialog and story that are forefront and center. It may be a walking sim but I see it the same way as Stanley Parable, it tells an engaging story and uses gameplay to augment it.
Character models may look off and bugs still present. Played it in one sitting though, simply because it's been awhile since I've had a story this good.

Remember Me, a game no one remembers ba dum tss

Nowadays if you google it you'll get more results about the song from Coco than the game itself, what an unfortunate name. It's not bad, just incredibly mediocre and forgettable.

It's got good ideas about it's combat mechanics, with different attributes for each attack and the possibility to customize them into your combos, but it stops about there. The combo strings are quite restrictive, you get a 3, a 5, a 6 and a 8 attack string, but they are locked in a specific order, you can only change the attribute of each attack, not the attack itself, so, at the end of the day, there's not a lot of difference between an 8 hit string to reduce cooldowns and an 8 hit string to restore health.

Besides that you get some powerups that use a special bar, but they are cooldown based, so you really can't go all out with this stuff. Besides depth, its combat also lacks some Arkham style combat challenges. You can only beat up thugs in the campaign, but it has unskippable cutscenes and the stages are long and linear as fuck. It makes it a pain to replay and get all the upgrades, doesn't help that the story is your run of the mill amnesiac with a mission tale.

If anything I'd say the art direction is top notch, a lot of the concepts are stupid, but it looks very good. It doesn't do enough to make me sad it never got a sequel, but I wouldn't mind to see it getting some love in a crossover game.

wow, im surprised it did not play this sooner. heard it never took off since the gameplay scared people away which, i kind of understand since i would struggle if i played it back in the day.
the game starts off with a man named Kalos waking up in a hospital after being attacked by monsters. Kalos is a man on a mission. to kill the man who murdered his family and you, the player will help him with that. yes, YOU! you are a character in this game as well. suffering from amnesia after the monster attack but dont you worry. Kalos will set you straight on this adventure.

the gameplay is like playing poker. you use card called mangnus that breaks down the atom's of objects and keep them inside cards. kind of like a USB, you can summon them in battle. cards have different numbers (1-9) and you suppose to form combos by choosing cards with the same numbers to get maximum damage. using card from 1 to 9 to crate a a straight combo is how you make the the strongest combo. even weak cards can be useful just by having the right number. having different elements in the mix makes it even better.

the story is great for you standard RPG with plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting. its one twist in particular that was so good, it made me drop my jaw and shake me up.

overall, it was a great experience and i was happy to have played it to completion. the ending was really sweet, the characters saying their goodbye to you and wishing you well in the real world felt very personal. man, there something about finishing an RPG. it just makes you feel satisfied but also, empty.

take care my friends.

Tormented Souls.
Somewhat similar in style to original Resident Evil/Silent Hill including those weird controls which mean I can't walk straight across a room without getting lost.
It's getting rave reviews, but I found it a bit lacklustre with some puzzles I didn't understand at all ( I don't think I'm a moron), really bad voice-acting and really far-apart save opportunities.
It was OK though, passed the time.
I preferred Song of Horror which was a lot of fun despite some really badly executed puzzles.
