What game or game series do you wish more people would play?

I've never seen a game get such a lack of people giving it a real chance. It's a phenomenally good tactical game with an extremely high difficulty level if you do what I did which is to keep putting the difficulty up every time it lets you. For puzzle solvers who like a serious challenge, this is the best example of making it hard without arbitrary heavy-hammer "cheats" to do so I've ever seen. Final battle I literally had a page of notes on sequences and moves I'd worked out to beat it.

Story and jokes are pretty good too. Don't have to be a Marvel fan for it but tonnes of Easter Eggs and details for those that are. And influenced much more by the comics than the movies. My god is Banner and ass to be around!

And the target audience was... nerds that like both turn-based tactical games and Marvel? That's a really small pool, even if it on the assumption that you're gonna lure in regular turn-based nerds that aren't normally interested in Marvel. No wonder it flopped, unfortunately.

That might be why. Reactions I saw were often focused around the card-based UI and people saying how they didn't have an interest in a card game. Having no interest in card games or real experience with them it didn't grab me either. But it's really just a UI decision. You could equally represent them as anything else and everything would work the same. But it seems to have done some damage.

It's also a real curate's egg. It's got elements of open world wander around solve puzzles stuff like Hogwarts Legacy, it's got mind-blowing amounts of recorded dialogue and interactions which reminded me a little of Dragon Age: Origins (no low-res sex scenes alas). And then the turn based battles you mention. I suppose if you view it as a Venn diagram with someone having to be in all of the groups to really love the game then yeah, such a multitude of categories makes the resulting set of full overlap very small.

But my god if you're in it, this game is superb. And I'm sure many more would like it than think they would. I think there are two especial factors that held it back in addition to those you listed that aren't obvious. Both to do with the tactical game play. The first is that it layers it on bit by bit. You don't really get just how complex and interesting the gameplay is going to get at the start. You just think: "Oh, that card requires two heroism to play. This one does damage to three people. This one moves some one (why do I care?)" The complex interactions and layered gameplay comes in over time. The second non-obvious one is that if you just played this game on Average difficulty it would be a very different game. You wouldn't be forced to gain the deeper understanding of the tactical play and its in that depth the game really shines.

I wasn't kidding earlier - I literally had a pad of paper next to me and was writing out lots of cramped little sequences and notes at the final battle. Hour after hour I was trying to beat that battle. Whilst there's randomness in initial card selection once a battle has begun everything is deterministic. You know exactly how much damage a play will do, exactly where an enemy will appear, who they will attack... so long as your moves are identical each time. Possibly sounds boring but it's the opposite - it's like you're in some incredibly complex branching timeline trying to figure out a sequence of plays and moves that will win. Oddly enough a little like Dr. Strange in Infinity Wars where he's exploring paths of the future. It's like a Sudoku game made by God!

I'm deeply sorry there's unlikely to be a sequel. As you said, the factors you list probably finished it commercially. But there has been SO much love put into it. Hell, I even love the glitches.

Ion Fury. I swear I cannot get people interested in this game. everyone supposedly loves "boomer shooters" now but the Steam reviews and discussion boards are full of people saying they got bored because of some nonsense bullshit, like "there are too many sewer levels" when every level in that game is fantastically distinct. even my oldhead friends have passed it up, one guy dropped it 10 minutes into the first level because "I couldn't figure out where to go". I don't fucking get it, it's literally the Duke Nukem Forever we should have gotten, it's the capstone achievement of the 90s shooter genre 25 years after the fact. it's like there was a spacetime glitch and a game from a much cooler universe Mandela Effected its way into ours. Voidpoint somehow managed to breathe it into existence despite their devs working around two jobs and no budget, and to this day the only major public attention it's gotten is a painfully retarded cancellation attempt over a lotion bottle sprite that says "OGAY". people who call themselves "gamers" today are almost universally dumb niggers, there are hordes of people out there playing Diablo 4, left clicking the same monster for 24 hours at a time, no thought, not even any meaningful videogame number increases, just repeating the same task a million times even though it's boring the first time, while a game like Ion Fury languishes in obscurity. the expansion is finally nearing completion and it's taken four years of slow trickle to do it, because none of the devs can afford to work on it full time. mediocrity flourishes effortlessly while talent fights a daily battle to survive.
 
Wizardry 4. So everyone would know they are stupid and suck at video games, would never play a game again, and/or would commit suicide.

And plagued with microtransactions and bullshit. People stay away from it after the disaster that was Marvel's Avengers. You're better off playing...

This game was a great tactical squad game featuring superheroes. It's not turn based, it's real time tactics with tactical pause, and it was awesome. It had a super cheesy story and an interesting cast of characters.

It also allowed for custom content and it had a large community. Want to play as the Xmen Evolution against a squad of Storm Troopers and an AT? You could do that. You can even create your custom heroes if you know how to do 3D stuff. There's no limit; you could make anything from thugs with guns, to Superman tier superheroes and fight them against eachother, or load them into the campaign.
 
For a serious answer, most of The Nintendo Switch's 1st & 2nd party library. I genuinely think that there are a ton of great games on there that unfortunately just happen to have loud troons in their fanbases. Remember, don't let the troons and soy fags drive you away from legitimately good games like Luigi’s Mansion 3 or Tears of The Kingdom.

What are you blithering about? The only extra stuff you pay for in the game are entirely cosmetic special costumes if you want to. It's buried in the costume customization stuff for your heroes and I doubt many people bothered with it. I know I didn't.

Outside of that the only things you pay for are, if you want them, the additional hero DLCs which add onto the already massive and story complete main game. Each hero has a tonne of dialogue, friendship path, interactions with the other existing characters and they all play in a different way with their own set of powers. They're major add-ons in their own right but not remotely necessary. The game is huge.
People stay away from it after the disaster that was Marvel's Avengers.
I mean, that's the point of the thread - what games do you wish more people would play because they're overlooked / not understood / unfairly dismissed / whatever.

Nintendo is mostly free of woke shit but it is seeping in through the cracks, it's nightmarish honestly because you can hardly avoid it anymore. But yeah, Nintendo deserves more appreciation.
