What happened to Encyclopedia Dramatica?

No, OI was an entirely new site that replaced ED by the founder because she was either embarrassed with the NSFW content on ED or wanted something that make some serious cash (a Know Your Meme competitor), depending on your view of the scenario.

A new ED was subsequently founded with the old content. But for me, the victim of all this was Whatport80, which was both SFW, community driven, and not designed to rake in advertising dollars like OI was.

I remember the original ICHCB. It was a fun site, before they grew out of control with stupid memes, tons of ads, and dozens of sites. An unfortunate victim was a blog called "Item Not As Described" which Cheezburger bought and subsequently shut down.

Oh well. I only visited ED anyway because of the Dragon Cave article. No loss that it's gone, I deal with the shit on that site on a day-to-day basis.

I remember being traumatised by the 4chan article on ED but thankfully, someone put a link to Whatport80 and I found that site so much more enjoyable. While it did occasionally have the spergy "hur hur aren't these tragedies hilarious?" moments, for the most part, it was funny and adorable. Oh Internet was pathetic replacement. ED pretty much died when that picture of Silent Rob wanking stopped being a .gif. :sighduck:

I kind of miss the spergy TVTropes days, though it was starting to get out of control (the creepy Troper Tales, articles like "Rape As Love")
 
You know what sucks? Another website hosted by zaiger, Anonmgur, also went down around the same time ED did. I used it and it was really bare-bones, but at the same time it had just about everything I'd ever need. Except the ability to upload multiple pics simultaneously. Now it's gone, along with my pictures.

As for Dramatica... back in the day, being the super-awkward kid I was, I would use its articles as guidelines on how to not end up being a total ass (I still did, but whatever). In a way, I'm glad it's gone, however briefly. I don't actually like drama.
 
With all this talk of wondering if ED will be dead, I decided to do a quick Google search. This is what I found.

Every time ED comes back up with another server it tends to get worse and worse. Due to how often it gets DDOS'd and how little the admin works on it's stability.

Like I remember even with the most recent ED iteration it crashed very often and I had to refresh more than any other site.

Also somebody's been playing Daggerfall recently...
 
Hey, whatever happened to ED? Didn't it get married or something? Like, dude, where did it go; has anyone found it?

This is actually one of my favourite articles as it's pretty entertaining to read. Also love the screencaps and quotes from tropers whining about pedophilia.

If they last longer than that, may as well give them a bit more time. Also shouldn't be too long for there to be more uninteresting articles. With that said, I'm just going to revisit some pages that have my interest.

Still up though an hour ago, I did get some sort of error that may of been related to their server or something (505 I believe). Still up though.
