What happened to Retsupurae?

Long story short, I used to like Retsupurae but got sick of them, but recently got a bit nostalgic and went to see what they've been up to... only to find their Youtube channel's last upload was three years ago?

Apparently Slowbeef still maintains a personal channel. Did they just drop the Retsupurae thing or was there some drama?

Kinda sad they apparently never did Crime Patrol 2: Drug Wars (even though I have a mandella effect memory of seeing it once).

They've been discussed in the SomethingAwful thread, but speculation and context clues show Diabeetus broke away first, Slowbeef is annoying on his own and he knows it and nobody seems to want to fill the shoes of Diabeetus to keep it going.
There's also the idea that making fun of people is off-limits for fear of using impolite language, and even then, all the self-admitted goons already make fun of videogames on Twitch while begging for money and validation

Yeah, didn't they try to cancel him (Slowbeef) for saying retard (I think it was retard but it might have been something else like faggot) in one of his videos from 10 years ago and he had to publicly apologize? Would it even be fun anymore if they were just constantly self-policing themselves in case they said a bad no-no naughty word? And what would they even make? They can't make fun of Let's Players anymore because it would be "rude" or "cyberbullying" or whatever.
ChipCheezum privated all his old videos recently too. I'd say if there's anything you really like that's up on the Restupurae channel, maybe download it now, just in case that goes the same way one day.

They got preachy and troll remorse like most Goons but couldnt shift into full bug people and ride the wave many others in the same crowd did.
The only thing stopping them from getting called out on old shit they did is that just like OP, nobody really gives all much of a shit about them anymore or even knows who they are.

Trolls remorse, as other people said, such a shame that it happens to some people. Like you can feel bad about trolling people back in the day but jesus no need to become a stick in the mud soyboy and turn on all your old friends/style of content. It shows weakness and that you aren't willing to grow from your past but instead run away from it..

As was said, troll's remorse. Hell, they took down the BillyMC videos and that's how I'd gotten into them.

Also, it was always a side gig. Slowbeef has two kids and a career in app development. Diabeetus also has his own shit. They're both still around but I think they realized that they missed the boat on the Let's Play bubble and so decided to just fade away. And you know what? Good for them for going out on their own terms before they could get cancelled.

They followed the change in mentality that SA gained and started self-censoring. The videos were all about mocking random people on the internet and its hard to do that kind of content while constantly worrying about being problematic. In one of their podcasts they talked about how hard it was for them to stop saying the word 'retard' and how they had to police their own thoughts and statements, which is typically a killer for comedy.

The funny thing is I didn't really like them making fun of LPs that much, I mostly got into them when they started doing wrongpuraes and stupid flash games. Then they transitioned to doing wrongpuraes of old PC games like King's Quest and I started having mixed feelings, since a lot of the games they were covering were actually good.

I tried to watch one from this period, their coverage of Dark Seed (a game I hated), but I didn't like that they had clearly not played the game themselves, and thus were kinda missing WHY the game was bad. But I'll stop before I go full sperg.

Largely trolls remorse. Beef got a family and didn't want to make fun of autists anymore. Not sure if that's what happened to Diabeetus but I imagine something similar happened there. I don't think there was a breakup between the two of them because they continued doing conventions together until more recently.

It felt more like a hiatus to me but troll’s remorse sounds right. They do occasionally stream together, as has been pointed out, but Beef mostly does it with other guests now.
 
I think I remember one of them saying something like how it's harder to find let's plays that are uniquely bad nowadays. They've made fun of camcorder lps, bad audio, poor gameplay ect. But with better technology nowadays those things are getting rarer. It's easier to record straight from your device than it used to be, so no more pointing your camera at the screen to record. And even if you can find someone doing that, they've made fun of that so many times already, would it really be funny again for the upteenth time?

I mean everyone's talking about the riffs on bad lets players but they had long drifted away from that. Their last public videos are on Overblood but they did start one on its sequel, but it's since been deleted/delisted since it didn't get far at all. Which is a shame because Overblood 2 gets really bonkers as it goes on, I'm sure they had issues getting footage because it's such an obscure game. Pretty sure slowbeef recorded it himself in an emulator when they usually just riffed on longplays at this point
