What Have You Cooked Recently?

Broiled lamb sirloin with rice, veggies, and garlic toast. I wanted beef steak but the prices were all marked up after the winter storm last week. I was being a cheap Jew so I got the lamb instead. I'd never tried it before, but it was fucking delicious and waaaay more tender than steak. Probably the cutest animal I've ever eaten and I definitely plan to make it again.

It was most likely plain old sheep and not lamb. That said sheep is my all time favorite red meat for this very reason. Next time you do it, dont forget the stop and go. Mint Jelly and Red Currant Jelly served on the side to dip the meat. If you are in texas though, put your own spin on it and replace the red currant with red pepper jelly.

beef burger, one onion, green pepper(all i had) cooked thoroughly in a pot and strained. added some frank's hot sauce...BOOM! had some taco bowls and grated up some "mexican" flavored cheddar...Boom!! again all three meals covered aka 16 bowls to have throughout all my drinking shenanigans. Off topic(I know you are so disgusted with me.) On tap is about 200 ml of Crown Royal, a 40 of J Wray's Golden Rum, and I got about a mickie's worth of Jack Daniels. Not bad. Might go on a liquor store run in a bit so I'm fully armed and dangerous for tonight...or all I mentioned food and booze wise will knock me out by night time...

I have finally experienced the glory of Kewpie Mayo
made a chicken sammich of potato buns, some jarred not-jalapeno peppers, some red onion, slightly-old gouda cheese, two Publix frozen chicken patties, Kewpie Mayo to keep shit globbed onto shit
it's noticeably better for the Kewpie compared to normal USA-jin mayo
I look forward to doing more with it

Today's post-workout meal! HB egg with sweet chili sauce, leftover gyudon from the other night, nori, and pan saute'd peas that I somehow grew myself. I was cleaning up the garden to prepare for spring planting and apparently there's been a pea plant under a flower bush that I didn't notice!
(BTW if anyone has gyudon recipes please share, my meat ended up tougher than I'd like)

I also just recently discovered how great Kewpie mayo is! I've been squirting a bit on my HB eggs with a shake of red pepper flakes.

I'd always heard it was good but always had some other mayo around so it wasn't worth picking up

tonight was cheap winn dixie boneless ribeye (only six bucks a pound!)
just salt and pepper on the meat, lubed the pan with a bit of garlic olive oil
about 4m on each side, spun the pan 180 at the 2m mark each time to keep everything even
came out on the rare side of medium rare
along with that some tiny potatoes and carrots in the oven, did those with olive oil, salt, pepper, tumeric, paprika, thyme
turned out great
paired with Aldi's cheapest Merlot

Rice. Just rice. Many types. The rice cooker has a handle and retractable cord, and I'm dorking out. Hope you all had a great weekend.

Made a sandwich I am lovingly calling "the Cajun".

French baguette toasted with gruyere cheese melted on top, onions sauteed in butter and tobasco sauce, country ham, roasted turkey and dijon mustard. It's as good as it sounds.

That is all the best of the cuban with a good and sexy twist. I love it!

I usually avoid mayo, but kewpie is actually pretty good.

I made chicken enchiladas verdes, but forgot to take a pic, womp. Made my own sauce with tomatillos, dried peppers, bell pepper, onion, garlic, spices, etc, with white corn tortillas.
It blows my mind how hard it is to find fresh tomatillos sometimes. Most people outside of SoCal don't even know what the fuck I'm talking about.

I'm in south texas, so they're produce aisle staples here, thankfully. I'm from the west coast originally, and I miss all the asian food, but goddamn, all the fresh mexican ingredients here are hard to pass up.

It's also harder than hell to find mole verde, pipian, Mexican-style chorizo and goat meat. There's like one place I could find the chorizo and they're gone now, and the only place I can find the goat meat is the kind of place that I will not go.

Oh well.

Crab gratin is on the menu tonight. Got a bit of real crab meat, some spinach, onion, swiss cheese, gouda, grueyer, and of course some potatoes. Gonna fry the potatoes a little before I put them into my crockery, then I'll throw some herbs, spices, and aromatics into the cheese sauce, and pop it in the oven for a little.
