Containment What If?

What if Chris was met by an ugly 18-current age boyfriend free girl who was in love with him, wanted to be his sweetheart, but he turns her down and she turns out to be a beautiful enchantress? I doubt it would be possible to transform him into a hideous beast...

She could turn him neurotypical so he'd have a full understanding of what a jerk he's been to people.
(I know that would horrify me.)

- He would fail at punching through the holes on the Punchboard.
- He would make a drive instead of a putt in the golf game.
- He'd play Switch, where you can chose to do nothing, and then he'd shit himself.

he'd also bitch about the prizes being offered

"Hey, hmm, wait a minute dere, Bob, you just gave the last contestant dere a beautiful trip to Malaysia. I want to take my gal-pal somewhere so I can finally lose my hated virginity! I don't want no baby crib and grandfather clock!"

I never approved of the stupidification that Randy Marsh started to get over the years, but that's a bit off topic.

What if Chris was raised in Japan?
From what I've heard, Japanese culture has little tolerance for failure or imperfection, and society there generally doesn't coddle kids ( never mind autistic man children).
Would he be forced to be challenged there? Or become an even more extreme version of himself, surrounded by anime and what not?

It depends. Are we going to assume that Chris is born to a Japanese version of Barb and Bob, or are we going to give him completely new parents?

From what I know about Japanese society, Chris probably would have been put into a group home at a much younger age when it became clear that he wasn't going to cut mustard socially or academically.

Japan has this little thing called "otakus" apparantly. It's a wizards wet dream: you get to live off your parents cash and they will do whatever they can to make sure you never have to leave the house, as they'll be extremely embarrassed for your existance. I figure Chris would be one of those, complete with playstation-waifu bride and imaginary girlfriends Julay-ing it up in his head.

Since they don't have an awful lot of churches I imagine he'd be even more isolated then he already is. Few would know of him or pity him since his very existance would be hidden from the world.

From the impressions I get from the Japanese exchange students at my college (of which there are many), I'd guess the former. To be fair, the Chinese and Korean exchange students seem to have similar attitudes re schoolwork so it may not be an exclusively Japanese phenomenon.

There would be no Rocky-style Shinto priestess?
It's kind of too bad, the social darwinist streak in Japan where "specials" bring the family shame instead of being celebrated for who they are...

Nah it don't work like that there. Religion is a very individual thing there.

There really isn't much to celebrate. If you had a son like Chris would you shout it off the rooftops?

Not like that no, but I wouldn't lock him away like qausimodo either..
I just think it's wrong to hide people because your ashamed of them rather than trying to help teach them and let them function in the world to the extent they can.
Japan isn't alone in this attitude btw, since 1950s America had a similar attitude to slow in da minds

This is a very modern/progressive attitude which, unfortunately, is not shared by much of the world.

At least Quasimodo had those gargoyles as friends. And I'm pretty sure he got some pity-china from that gypsy girl in the end. He was kind of a deformed special Don Juan.

I don't think that's really the case. It's more a case of people unwilling to cooperate to whatever help you offer them. Until at one point the parents give up. It's kinda similar to how Borb handled things, albeit with less visits to fastfood chains. Instead, had Chris been born in the land of Pokeymans and Godzirra, they'd bring the fastfood to him so he wouldn't have to leave the door, me thinks.

It's a matter of what resources are available too. I really don't know what resources Japan has, but I do know from a friend who lived there for little over a year that they have a very different attitude towards special individuals.
