Containment What If?

It has been sort of implied, but is that attitude toward retards not so much compassion and pity, but more disgust and revulsion, something that is breaking the zen like order of society?
On a kind of different note, but is it still true that there is quite a lot of racism/sexism in Japan today, as well as little sorrow/contrition over WWII crimes?

Disgust and revulsion seems rather appropriate in certain scenarios. There's quite a few special individuals who, to the majority of people, would be seen as both gross and pitiful at the same time. Pity and disgust can go hand in hand.

There is. But then again, it's the same in many other countries. None of this would affect a potential Chris in any way, however.

It's a matter of what resources are available too. I really don't know what resources Japan has, but I do know from a friend who lived there for little over a year that they have a very different attitude towards special individuals.

It's true. There's a huge stigma regarding special needs and mental illness in general in eastern Asian countries--which, by the way, have some of the highest suicide rates in the world.

To answer FifthColumn's questions: there are some xenophobic behaviors in Japanese society still, and they're a bit more apparent than in some other countries. It's exceptionally difficult, if not impossible, for a foreign-born person to become a Japanese citizen unless their parents are Japanese as well. You will occasionally see signs in Japan and Korea saying things like, "sorry, this store is for native patrons only--no foreigners." I spent a semester abroad in Osaka in college--at one point, I was taking the train to school and the conductor escorted me and my classmates into another car--which was empty--so we wouldn't have to be seen by the locals.

As far as WWII is concerned, there's a lot of denial about Japanese atrocities and the attack on Pearl Harbor. For example, one of the displays at the Peace Museum at Hiroshima reads, "in 1941, the Axis Powers attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, thus hurling Japan into the Second World War."

What if Chris was raised in Japan?
From what I've heard, Japanese culture has little tolerance for failure or imperfection, and society there generally doesn't coddle kids ( never mind autistic man children).
Would he be forced to be challenged there? Or become an even more extreme version of himself, surrounded by anime and what not?

What if Chris took his pursuit of his sweetheart too far and got arrested?

What if Chris' parents treated his "creative works" like Gloria Tesch's treated hers - as in, got Sonichu vanity published, tried to market it, etc.?

Unless they went through a tiny vanity publisher that made practically no blip on the radar? Copyright infringement lawsuit. Quickly.

What if Chris hadn't been traumatized by the abusive babysitter? Without those years spent as a mute, would he have had a better chance to actually learn some about society and turned out better, or would he still end up as he has?

I call bull on the babysitter story, Chris just didn't talk at all for the first few years of his life.
He did not speak at 6mo., and a shitty babysitter (and I'm sure she was shitty) didn't make him mute.

Chris was raised more by television then anything else. And on several shows they have abusive babysitter characters. Perhaps he saw a movie or a series one day and it inspired him to come up with a world class bullshit theory on why he was such a spergy lil' cunt? That's my theory, anyway. He was probably told he used to have a babysitter and even though he remembers none of it, he thought of some sort of backstory himself.

He spent those years as a mute because he was autistic and, at least for the first few years of his existance, a whole lot more low-functioning then he's comfortable with admitting. The babysitter story is his excuse. And I figure he thinks it makes him somehow a bit heroic for having overcome such odds and becoming the artistic genious we all know and love today.

What if Crystal Weston Chandler actually happens, and she actually and miraculously lives enough to be an adult and live away from her crazy father.

What will she be like?

I can't see Chris bringing up a child. It would mean someone would have to be given attention that wasn't him. If he did suddenly end up with a baby Crystal and have to bring her up on his own, she'd end up in care due to neglect and probably be normal enough when compared to our Chris.

This has probably been asked already (but I'm too lazy to look it up :snorlax: ), but what if a boyfriend-free, 18-32 year old, caring, smoke-free, non-alcoholic white girl appeared in Chris' life, and was willing to be made into a sweetheart from the ground up by him? Essentially a perfect girl who loved Chris and would be willing to put up with everything he did. How would his life change?
