When we talk to people, when we explain things or make jokes, we often want to use a reference that pops into our head. If the reference is a pop culture show or movie, you're probably fine. But we all have something stuck in our head that nobody else catches and even though it's no good our brain keeps throwing it out there for us to use when we're talking to people.

For me, it's the same chocolate biscuit. When I was a small (but serious) child, there was a show called Bagpuss which in one episode had some mice demonstrating their chocolate biscuit factory to the eponymous cat. The factory would produce biscuit after biscuit but the mice would always take it away from the cat before he could eat it. Finally he deduced that it was a trick and they were simply taking it round the back and rolling out the same biscuit over and over. To this day, it is my brain's go to analogy for any number of frauds, shuffling around of taxes or any other flim-flam sham of trying to pass off the same thing again and again. I keep wanting to deflate something by pointing out "It's the same chocolate biscuit". But I have to keep stopping myself because I know nobody else will get it.

I know I'm not the only one. What is the obscure reference you keep using or wanting to but which nobody else gets?

Reply to me if you get the "Kind Regards" KF reference. I bet you don't.

I have lots of sayings that are probably too niche for many others to get. I also tend to shorten or combine words into my own lingo. I try not to use them too often out loud because I don't want to confuse people.

I regularly pull out Peep Show's "men with ven" to blank stares.
