What is and what is not "Grifting on the internet"?

Grifitng is the act of positioning yourself in such a way that you can exploit somebody or something for your own personal monetary gain or social advancement. The most successful grifts exploit fear, emotion, and Ignorance. Examples include:

Nick Rekieta covering the Kyle Rittenhouse trial and collecting donation money. He is exploiting public interest for viewership, subscribers and donation money.

Bill Mitchel collecting money under the guise of building a D.C. studio and instead spending it on a Miami vacation.

Kurt Eichenwald fighting Tucker Carlson and landing a brief contributor deal with msnbc.

Other important things to look for when identifying a grift: Is it an individual or a corporation? I consider a "grifter" to be an individual, people I can put a name and face to. While commercials for the Aspca, Peta, Holocaust survivors, Haiti relief, Chinese flu lanyard masks, etc certainly are scams that do play on emotion and fear I don't necessarily consider them "grifting." Which brings me to my next point Grifting is always a one-to-many relationship (live streams, social media, "victims" that appear on tv asking for donation money under the pretense that something horrible happened to them, etc.

Rekieta grifting the Kyle Rittenhouse case is a good example.

Spout some semi literate lawyer words and harvest the money from the simps looking to have their opinion validated.

Grifters are what people call people arguing opinions and narratives online that they disagree with but can't refute.

Grifters are also people who just tall bullshit online about how Kathleen Kenedy is already powerless at Lucasfilm and there's 16 versions of the Rise of Skywalker.
