He's concerned with macro free speech, the ability for individuals and groups to freely express thoughts and opinions on the Internet, not implementing a micro, pure form of free speech on this website in particular.

"free speech" is, at its core, the idea that people shouldn't be unfairly punished for speaking earnestly. however, most people will consider it unfair if they're punished for speaking earnestly, even if (especially if) they're a faggot saying a bunch of cringe bullshit. as the poster above noted, free speech absolutism is untenable, so there has to be some degree of censure to maintain the sanity of any community, because some people are just irredeemable faggots who ruin shit. this means that, no matter how staunch your stance on free speech is, there will always be somebody claiming hypocrisy because you rightfully turned them out for being a faggot, in order to maintain the ideal for the people who deserve it. ergo, this thread.

Null may or may not be a hypocrite, but for better or worse, he is on record claiming that this is not a free speech site. Or at least, he chooses not to call it a free speech site, since free speech means different things to different people. If you call your ISP and put up enough of a stink or threaten to cancel, most will assign you a new static IP to save you from going to a rival company.
 
*Most Xenforo sites have a special display ribbon that user gets when they are permanently banned. Kiwifarms doesn't. The only way to tell if a person is banned on Kiwifarms is to attempt to autocomplete their username, which doesn't work if they are banned. This wasn't something special for my case, but it means that users aren't going to be aware if someone has been silently banned.

I fully approve of Josh banning retards for shitting up a thread, or generally acting like a massive faggot. But the one thing I agree with is this last point- As site owner, Josh can obviously ban who he wants. But I think there should be more transparency about who's been banned, and why.

Especially for a forum like KF, the possibilty that a user can just be memory-holed with no trace, doesn't look good, and harms confidence in the site. Like most users, I generally trust Josh's judgement, and that he acts in the best interests of KF. But I think more transparency about bans would be in keeping with the sites ethos, as well as with Josh's past statements about transparency, and wanting the site to be trusted as impartial.
