I am an ignorant exceptional individual and will always value some good ol' fashion lecturing.
Sure, I'll try to keep it from going on pages.

Middle class is really area dependent, it's a rather poor tool to measure because middle class in my area vs your area will vary maybe 10k... now if we factor the world all together what you have in your change drawer... is pretty middle class for us as a species.

The medium household income in the US is 53k (2014 number and a increase from 2013)so... 50 grand is middle class. Depending on a lot of factors that can go incredibly far or not at all cover the bills. One of the big factors will be where you live.

Now let's also factor the avg person has 16k CC debt... and middle class, probably you own a car (that's financed and 1/3 of those loans are sub prime....) a home.... maybe student loans. So if you gave into the credit boom and draw more than a years salary may be owed. If you own out right things, you can be real a head of the game on that same 50 grand.

My issue really is like most apples to apples you get a solid number, but that's it. With so many external factors the number doesn't matter much but gives people a one punch sum up. How are you rich you only make 50k someone may say, when your home was paid off... that say 1000 someone sinks into housing a month you can throw at the bank a corvette or what have you. How are you broke at 50k? Well two kids aren't cheap... and the minivan out front..

Our spending habits are part of it more on the socioeconomic side, people tend to spend how they feel in the class... so if you were on the tight end on that middle class you'll spend like someone on the looser end.
