Our souls know everything about the world but our bodies don't, so our bodies are trying to learn what our souls know, but can only perceive imperfect versions of things. Our bodies are trying to "re-learn" what our souls know about the perfect form of each thing. Thus, everything in reality is simply a shadow of its perfect form.
