What is the best Final Fantasy game of all time? - And hey, explain why if you feel like it.

What is the best Final Fantasy game of all time?

My favorite was X. The story telling was really well done, the characters were fleshed out and unique, and the world building was amazing. Only thing I didn't like about it was the combat once you got to the end-game portion but most FF up until X were pretty bad at end-game combat.

you can mod the thing and put it on there

Yeah but only the original, not the Playstation or 3DS versions with all their extras. I think there's also a Windows/PC version too, but I don't know if it has any extras.

It's like being able to play KH2 but not KH2 Final Mix.

Tactics or 7. Tactics for story/soundtrack/mechanics. 7 for actually being very groundbreaking in both presentation and writing at the time. It was pretty rare for a console game to rely heavily on an unreliable narrator. Hell, it still is.

Six then Seven then Nine then One.

Bravely default count as a final fantasy game? I had the most fun with it out of all the ff games i've played.

VI made an impact on me because nearly everyone gets closure in the end and it's all worth getting every character again.

I like IX for how simple the lore is before the series tried to make their own overly complicated lore like X. It's also one of the more comfier games.

XII doesn't get as much credit. I agree with some of the criticisms of the characters lacking chemistry but I like that the villain isn't actually trying to destroy the world but actually giving humanity free will.

So my answer is:
Chocobo Racing

6,12 and Tactics are my favorites.
5 is the runner up.

7 was kind of ruined for me after I read the FF House thing.

My shitty rundown of the series:

FF1 - had a fun time finally beating this game. Never played the ports.
FF2 - Love romancing saga but felt like a prototype for that series. Never got far. Excellent world map
theme.
FF3 - Haven't played.
FF4 - Really dug this game and I want to play the psp port with extra shit. The 3ds version's artstyle
makes me feel a bit sick.
FF5 - Kinda underrated but a lot of fun. Story is a bit sparse but quite a few silly moments. Felt legit
sad at several key moments.
FF6 - Best ratio between story and gameplay for me. My "lowest" favorite.
FF7 - Was a really charming game and I liked the materia system..just not as much as the espers
because you couldn't permanently manipulate your stats :(.
FF8 - I really like triple triad and the junction system. Game isn't for everyone but I like it.
FF9 - Great game but coming out the same year as Chrono Cross and Breath of Fire IV my attention was
heavily diverted. The combat feels more shallow than previous games but I know there are some
neat little tricks I missed.
FF10 - Is a pretty solid game in spite of Tidus and the last boss being stupid and underwhelming.
This game gets too much hate.
FF11 - I missed this boat and regret it.
FF12 - I love this game a lot and don't even bother arguing with people who write out bullet points
about why its shit. Too bad about Matsuno's kickstarter :(
FF13 - I'll beat this one someday.
FF14 - Pretty good but I think I've outgrown mmorpgs. Sometimes I think of subbing back.
FF15 - I didn't beat this one but I had a lot of fun? Worst part was the load times but now its on steam so I can play on my SSD.

I never played: Revenant Wings, Tactics Advance, A2, FF3 and X-2. Never touched the FF7 extended universe shit. Crisis core looked cool. You could call me an FF fan I suppose.

I love every main Final Fantasy from I-X, and there are things I like "best" about most of them. For example, this entire segment has the most :feels: for me in a final fantasy game.

I lied, this is more :feels:...

Vayne was supposed to be the villain?

Actually that's one of my major problems with XII. I couldn't identify much with the good guys but the villain seemed to really have his shit together and did nothing wrong.

Hard to say really. I'd say Tactics, IX or V.

I've not played a FF game that I've hated. No, not even FFXIII.

Heck, I even enjoyed the Crystal Chronicles games, aside from the Wii one which I never played.

Out of those ones, the Gamecube one is probably the worst gameplay wise by having the multiplayer shackled to the GBA link thing, but it's a pretty game with a fun story and nice gameplay (though the Demon's Court can go to hell). Also, cutest moogles in all FF.

I think Ring of Fates had the best story of the three, and the villain had a really fitting end. Admittedly though I was stupid and took until new game+ to realise you could cast higher than level 1 spells, and this was as the mage race.

I had the most fun gameplay wise with Echoes, playing through it multiplayer with a friend over a couple of nights.

He is the antagonist what with the occupation and all.
I was mostly talking about Venat.

6 was excellent and very replayable, but I voted for 1. Replayed that a shit-ton and it really hit all the right notes as a D&D styled fantasy adventure with minimal characterization. It was a mindblowing improvement over Dragon Warrior 1 for the NES and there's really smart art and design choices start to finish. It's super interesting to try & recreate in any of the RPG Maker engines just to see how it ticks, and how little there actually was to it & how it still sucked hundreds of hours and multiple playthroughs out of folks.
