What is the best Linux Distro for a normal person?

I like Linux in general, Ive used Ubuntu so far but I need to reinstall and I am considering maybe switching it up,

1. I am fine with isntalling stuff from the command line
2. I wanna have some level of customization over GUI
3. I wanna install (or at least use) shit from non canonical sources
4. Should be stable, I need to reinstall because thunderbird spazzes out to the max since I tried to get german spell-check on it, reinstalling thunderbird does not help

what do you recommend?

I'm using Manjaro but not sure I'd recommend it. It mostly works aside from the weird composition issues I get (fixed by toggling composition thankfully SHIFT+ALT+F12).

They also shill the worst shit on their website

Somebody recommended EndeavourOS as an alternative to Manjaro but I haven't tried it yet and it describes itself as "terminal-centric" so I'm not sure it's appropriate for OP.

Maybe just avoid the Arch autism and install Linux Mint?

Seconding Linux Mint. At least give it an honest try, then if you don't like it maybe test out Fedora or some Arch distro in a VM. OpenSUSE may be of interest to you since you're not actually a normal person and ok with popping open the command line, but even then it has decent GUI tools for everything you have to do.

I want to say all linux distros are shit but that might be a bit of an exaggeration.
I use ubuntu for work and it's GUI is not great, a lot of the little usability things on windows you take for granted are gone. Also despite the convenience of "sudo apt" I've had to spend a lot of time googling to get thing to work because some setting in some file was set wrong.

So I wouldn't recommend ubuntu unless all you're planning on doing is browsing the internet, in which case the OS is just a fancy container for your browser app.

Gnome (Guh-noam) is awful and I assume that's what you're using if it's at work. Other desktop environments are more familiar to Windows users and can be configured sanely otherwise.

Ubuntu has a bunch of spinoffs with other desktop environments for a reason.

Arch is good, has a gui installer now if you aren't hyper autistic. Just follow a guide and everything'll work fine.

Depends on what you want. This is a somewhat condensed list, do your own research before deciding.

Fedora is it just has to work and that's it. Some users may want to remove GNOME and install Xfce instead. (RPM)
OpenSUSE if you are willing to sometimes mess with it. (RPM)
Manjaro if you want frequent updates and a package manager that sometimes works. Available with Xfce, GNOME or KDE. (Pacman, also has the AUR)
Linux Mint if you want a Ubuntu-like experience since it's pretty much the same thing. (APT)

Note: Both Xfce and GNOME are all heavily customizable (rice-capable in /g/tard terms) and I am not sure about KDE, have not used it.

I personally use RockyLinux with Xfce since I hate GNOME and Wayland with a passion.

ZORIN OS. I've been messing with it and I like it. It is very close to Windows 7/10 in how it does things.

Going to also vote for Linux Mint. It was my first distro back in 2014 and I still love it, despite being a pure Debian user.
PopOS if you want something that "just werks", its not bad but uses their own fork of gnome, which gnome on its own is bloat.
EndeavourOS is just Manjaro but better in almost every way. Manjaro isn't as good as it use to be. But this is, as others have said, if you want to tickle your autism a bit.

I used to shill Manjaro (my first distro) but now it's EndeavourOS. Even if the terminal can be scary for new users, it's all explained.
