I think the worst part about this whole Saga is that he had innumerable chances to do something with his life and succeed with a valuable skill he's actually good at, yet he's too lazy (the monthly tugboat) or his parents hindering him (i.e. Barb threatening suicide when Chris and Bob tried to clean up the house, her also threatening to change the locks and not give his belongings back when he tried going to a convention). I can see a guy like him owning an electronics repair shop in spite of his traits.

It's kind of similar to Breaking Bad in that Walter wants to pursue his Drug Empire even when he has enough money to afford treatments and surgery on his cancerous lung(s), say if he succumbs to cancer he still has enough money to support his family well into his children's college education and even then his former business associates would've supported him.
