You will find with religion that of importance is not that what is believed is true but rather that it is believed. I find that the essence of faith is in its function - the institution of faith to give cohesion, the doctrine of faith to give morality/meaning, the romance of faith to blossom culture and the contemplation of faith to deepen understanding. Furthermore, in life you will find certain Christian notions, particularly of sin and hell, are true just not in the way you'd think. As in anything philosophical, focus on the tangibles. Sins are sins not by divinity but because their contagions do not make healthy societies. Hell is not quite some torture you find in death (though I agree with this notion under a personal interpretation) but something that through your actions you or, more likely, your children will very much find in life. There is a longevity always in the mindset of faith's ideology. While many ailments it warns of can be seen in the lolcows of this site, in the moment, the real insidiousness it functions (ideally) to prevent is the subtle, creeping instability of generational degradation and decay.
