Conservatism is a reaction against liberalism, not the other way around. That’s why it’s literally called “reactionary” among smart people who know what they’re talking about.

Some history for you, the word “conservative” was coined by Edmund Burke as a response to the French Revolution. Now you know.

Rousseau has some pretty odious ideas, mainly that the State, being the expression of the common will is infallible. It's why they are constantly banging on about "our democracy". "Our democracy" being a stand in for Rousseaus common will and the sanctity of the State.

This, and I should add that the left has a quasi-religious belief that they are on the "right" side of history as if it is coming to an end point. I find the notion absurd because my belief is that history is cyclical and unending until humanity's extinction.

This goes in a vicious cycle and has for decades: the left is permanently infected by communists, who want to destroy this country as it stands and rebuild a communist "utopia" here. They do whatever they have to in order to provoke the right and destabilize society. They try slowly and covertly, until they inevitably go too far and the people recognize what's happening. They and their ideas become socially unacceptable and the communists dump that generation of politicians and try to infiltrate the right, or compromise the sexual degenerates. See George W. Bush and "compassionate conservatism", Mitt Romney and Dick/Liz Cheney. The right realizes they're being had, go anti-government and scare the politicians. They back off and plan for the next takeover attempt in 30-40 years.

Those on the Left who feel like they have the moral high ground feel that way because they say and fight for things that sound nice. "Peace and love" and "equality for all" sounds great and therefore anyone who isn't flat out agreeing with those statements must be against them. The Left's endless "peace and love" movement however has attracted a lot of people who just want their disgusting behaviour to be legalized and normalised, nowadays its becoming impossible to distinguish who genuinely wants "peace and love" and who just wants to mutilate themselves and fuck children.

Look at Jonathan Haidt's moral foundation theory. It posits that there are 6 moral axes people use to make their decisions, but depending on the context different axes will be more powerful at different times.

Children start off learning only 2 axes - care/harm and fairness/cheating. They know they don't like being hurt, and they don't like playing rigged games, so those things are bad. As they grow up they're supposed to learn the other 4 axes and incorporate them into their moral structure.

But liberals are a little weird, they have trouble detecting the other 4 axes. The ones that self identify as strongly liberal sometimes even actively reject them as valid variables for consideration. It's like liberals are stuck with the morality of small children.

Of course, there are exceptions. On an individual basis they may be able to detect and use all the axes, but when they do even that manifests differently than when the right does it. The thing about people having a God shaped hole in their hearts and trying to fill the hole with something else? That's the sanctity/degradation axis. The right tends to manifest "my body is a temple" with chastity, the left does it with ethical diets. That's why moralizing vegetarians/vegans are so annoying. They might not legally be another religion, but morally and psychologically that's on the same level as listening to a religious sermon from some faith you don't subscribe to.

(This part is my own thing, it's not a part of the moral foundations theory proper) But unlike small children, liberals have grown up enough to manipulate the axes they do have to suit their agendas. If they don't like you, they dehumanize you and declare you've been cheating so it's only fair to fuck you over. If you're a woman against feminism or a colored conservative, they declare that you're harming yourself and they know better than you, so shut up and let them speak over you. They don't believe in the liberty/oppression axis so they legitimately see nothing wrong with telling a minority to shut up and know their place so long as they can justify to themself that they're reducing harm by doing so.

In their minds it comes from a higher moral ground, they're the "nice" and "coscientious" ones in their minds, the heroes of their own story, but in practice?

It's institutional power. The reality is they're like this because they're in charge of everything, so they get to decide what's right and wrong, especially in absence of an absolute and eternal moral standard - one that you can only find in religions - to stick to, and this gives way to arbitrariness.
Material reality doesn't matter either, after all being the ones in charge they create the facts on the ground and have a monopoly on their interpretation through the media.
