What is wrong with people who watch Vtubers?

I don't think vtube simps are any different than anyone else who has a parasocial relationship with a streamer/video uploader. They are all under socialized attention starved husks. Obviously vtube models appeal to anime fans, but I wouldn't be surprised to see less anime inspired models become popular in the future.

If you think real hard it's kinda like watching barney, but if you send $100 he reads your username. I would have killed for that experience at 5.

I think “what’s wrong with them” is that they’re just lonely guys or legitimate gooners and pedo adjacents

The most normal people just like let's plays/streaming with a slant of wrestling esque keyfabe. I can understand the appeal of streamers with a large cast of vtuber castmates and transparently exaggerated personality, all streamers are fake cartoons of themselves vtuber just own it.
The other end is delusional coomers idol weirdo who get obsessed with there particular anime oshi. The type of person who find someone they slightly like and goes off the deep end buying hundreds of pieces of merchandise and constantly donates to them to show that ugu anime lady #86 is his thing.
There's a spectrum from let play clip enjoyer to gooner obsessive freak but past the point of donating to fake anime friends so they say your name you might want to rethink things.

I personally like Ironmouse, I dont watch their streams or anything but their youtube vids/shorts can be pretty funny, plus I think their background gives them more of an excuse to be a vtuber than chicks just wanting attention.

That being said I always imagine this whenever I think of vtuber fans

I don't know, I never watched any and don't really know anything about them except they're accused of pedophilia. I'm not into streamers in general, I prefer edited content.

However, if you consider the likes of ComputingForever/The Dave Cullen Show to technically be "Vtubers"/Vtuber-adjacent then I guess I have to say there's nothing inherently wrong with them.

I enjoy some and I kind of struggle to identify why.

One element is that it feels kind of reminiscent of pre-smartphone internet, where people didn't constantly offer up information about themselves, didn't posture or flex (as much), weren't as concerned with virtue signaling. Normal streamers are kind of fucking insufferable, like they're incapable of just playing a video game without grandstanding because they feel the need to protect their image since it's intrinsically linked to who they are as a person. There's an element to vtubers that is to streaming what The Gorillaz was to celebrity; a forced severance of the parasocial idol worship mentality through fiction and pseudonymity. Though ironically this is disappearing as the corpos shift to jap idol culture horseshit instead of just letting streamers stream. But when it's done right it feels like old pre-youtube let's plays, somebody you know nothing about and don't care to know anything about doing funny stuff in video games.

There's also a lolcow-adjacent element in that the type of people who pursue vtubing are often strange fucking specimens and I'm fascinated by how they can be so fucked up and dumb and somehow still survive. It feels like a less depressing version of reading KF, in the sense that most of the people on this site are getting laughed at because they're pieces of shit in some way, whereas vtubers offer up absurd and embarrassing information about themselves behind the veil of pseudonymity and laugh at themselves along with you.

I also just get a little bit of joy out of hearing people laugh and have fun, especially over simple stuff I'd otherwise be too jaded to see the humor in.

Also I didn't put this together until just now but there was a comedy tabletop stream I used to watch where they ran a custom software that let the players and DM operate rudimentary puppets of their characters, and half the comedy came from the puppeteered improv scenes rather than the gameplay, and vtubing is in some way just an extension of that. Maybe. I don't know.

That said 95+% of them suck and there's just a few gems among them. But that's true of everything. I already posted a big long rant about how much I fucking loathe lewdtubers so I'll leave it at that.

They are simps AND weebs
So they develop a parasocial relationship with a woman who they dont even know how she looks like and dead ass pretend that its an anime girl. They have even turms for shit like retierment and their flesh self wich makes it extra cringe. And they have agencies that do all the PR for them. Why? To further exploit parasocial relationship that i mentioned before.
And personal pet peeve i hate when woman does baby voice which is basically trademarked by v tubers at this point.

They don't even call it retirement, they very creepily call it "graduation" because they like to imagine the person they're obsessed with, sexually or otherwise, is a little school girl, and that once the school girl "graduates" and becomes an adult they are no longer relevant to their interests.

Retirement would suggest they have a job, which would be threatening to their audience.

Graduation is a term borrowed from idol culture and has nothing to do with schools. You look like a deranged weirdo when you see sexual themes when none are present.

Most vtubers are women and because they are also streamers drama happens a lot so people who may not like vtubers might enjoy the amount of retarded shit that happens because this is a drama site after all.

I assume for the same reason people watch streamers, because they are lonely as most streamers are just fake social connections you pay for. Now add in a "female" that they think they could potential have sex with and you now understand why v-tubers are popular.

Only respectable stream to watch is our Dear Feeder's.

I don't know, it gives me the creeps. Don't they think about what kind of person becomes a vtuber? What kind of person doesn't want you to know what they look like, but wants you to think of them as a little anime girl? To me the obvious answer is BPD fat/ugly women, ugly gay dudes with a straight guy fetish, troons, and pedophiles. Doesn't that realization ever intrude on the fantasy? The whole thing is bizarre to me.

I think there's a difference between following whatever drama is associated with them out of morbid curiosity and developing a genuine parasocial relationship.
