I'm no expert, but it sounds like Pakistan is the aggressor, and has done so repeatedly.

The thing I don't like is when people try to blame it on the British. Supposedly none of this would've happened if Britian had split Kashmiri up fairly. What's a fair split? Not answered.

I'm not a history buff, but according to a random video about it, when Britain left, they let each place vote if they wanted to join India, Pakistan, or go independent. They voted independent, and the other two have been fighting over it since. I could be completely wrong. Please correct me, but if that was how it was handled, I don't see what Britain could've done to prevent it.
