Only weed. I would be open to psychedelics but I'm worried I'll see something fucked up so I think I'll mull it over. I don't smoke, and I seldom drink.
Back when someone who isn't me was a dumbass they were doing shitloads of DXM, DPH, pot, benzos, cheap vodka, the normie stuff you use to get fucked up and forget about your problems. Did acid once, got clean after that, they hardly ever drink or smoke anymore because in the trip they spent a good chunk of the 8-12 hours reinforcing the idea that they wanted to get sober, go to therapy, and love themselves and their friends. Basically brainwashed themselves with that idea, so now they feel a very profound and visceral sense of guilt whenever they break sobriety. It's deep in the core of their psyche now, like a lesson you learned as a kid, can't fully explain just how deep the guilt is when they break sobriety. Made them really see how beautiful nature is, really changed their perspective on life; like someone else said, you really get out what you put into LSD, it's no wonder the CIA tried brainwashing people with it. Hell of a drug.
If you're ever planning on trying it, you'll really benefit from some pre-planning. Most people say you need a trip-sitter, someone who isn't me didn't have one, and they were alright, but they had to talk themselves down from a bad headspace and they had to tell themselves that they would be okay, so if you can't reliably do that and other anxiety-management exercises, get a good trip-sitter. Make a playlist of some music that you really enjoy and makes you feel safe or excited, you'll be more sensitive to "good vibes" since LSD makes it pretty hard to suppress any kind of emotion, even though it tends to make people happy and bubbly. Get fresh fruit, herbs, good quality chocolate, and tea, flavourful, natural things that a child might want to stick in his mouth. For whatever reason, they couldn't stand eating anything heavily processed when they were tripping. Do it on a sunny day in nature, the repetitive patterns of plants are very pretty, and clouds in the blue sky are lovely, if a bit blindingly bright. Colours are a lot more intense, and repetitive patterns seem to grow and warp, but it's extremely unlikely you'll actually hallucinate purple monkeys or anything scary unless you take a very, very high dose, that's more common with deliriants. Get some creative outlet like colouring books or paints and a canvas, a notebook to write in. All the serotonin and BDNF from the drug made the trip for them feel very much like babysitting an excitable child, and it's good to plan ahead for that. If you've got any demons you've buried, be prepared to cry.
The night sky is very pretty on LSD, but it made them feel a bit sad because they missed the sun. I recommended tripping outside because they felt very claustrophobic, sad, and lonely, when they were indoors. You're welcome to discard any or all parts of my advice, but I just wanted to offer some of my friend's experience, in case you hadn't heard any of it before.
It was a very life-changing experience for my friend and they truly feel they would've ended up offing themselves without it, but it's not for everyone. It felt electric, and very intense at times, and even though it felt like the universe loved them, if the drug wasn't treated with respect or the environment wasn't right, I imagine it could have gone poorly. I highly recommend that you meditate beforehand and pray to whatever god is in your life for safety and guidance, it can't hurt, even if you consider yourself atheist or agnostic.
