What Makes People Want The Same Game Over And Over? - Over the shoulder third person shooter with a dodge.

for example, when you move from fixed camera angles to free roam to create uncanny effects in horror games, they don't feel the same.
I 100 percent agree. I'm not pulling your leg when I say this, but I saw a video of Silent Hill 2 remake and thought it was a Resident Evil game. On another note I don't think most developers go back and play the game before remaking it. The most egregious example of this is FF7 Remake. Which is ironic because I really enjoyed Tetsuya Nomura's work on KH1 and KH2 but he has handled the FF7 remake series pretty badly so far.

I haven't played this game but I watched my friend play it a bit and it looks very bloated like The Hobbit, which stretched out a simple story over three films and it showed.

Yeah that is the perfect way to describe both the Kingdom Heart series and the FF7 remake series. Tetsuya Nomura has ran both into the ground.

Best example is WoW vanilla being sold again with almost no changes other than world-breaking glitches being addressed.

People are chasing that same high from 2005 when it felt like there was world peace and unity. People were more concerned with not getting ganked by that same fucking undead rogue, rather than politics.

I think that’s another thing too. Games like Mortal Kombat had no agenda. It was pure mayhem, and brainless fun. A cop, a ninja, a soldier with robot arms, and other guys that looked like action figures? It’s like every boys dream come true on the tv screen. No pandering, no ideology. Just fun.

I constantly play Morrowind.

I never finished the main quest because I always ends up downloading a new mod with quests or shit (Tamriel Rebuilt is a must have) and play on the hardest difficulty (and even download mods than make progression even more slower and hard).

Modern games are boring to me, but then again, I'm an adult so my gaming is very sparse and just play what makes me happy and enjoy

To Nomura's defense (i know) he wanted FF7R to be more one to one and it's everyone else on the team pushing for the new stuff. For once it's not his fault, it could of been a lot different.

I think that for most multiplayer games, people aren't actually buying a new brand experience, but just some extra time. People are right to point out that every COD game is basically the same but with a new skin.

There are very few exceptions like Counter Strike. But overall people keep buying re-skinned games to keep going. Yes, old games are still there and in many cases are just as good, or even better than new games. But everytime theres a new game you are just buying more time for the experience to be relevant, and to play with friends who otherwise would've moved on to the next big thing.

I'd have to ask in the Silent Hill thread, but I've seen claims that Blooper (the devs that remade it) didn't play SH2. I find that hard to believe, but it's possible.

This reminds me of how third person games all have the camera like ten feet above the character now. You can switch between old and new graphics on Tomb Raider remasters, and the new graphics raise the camera right in front of your eyes so you're angled almost isometrically, I'm guessing so you can't see hot lady ass. Does any of this make sense or do I sound like I'm rambling?

I've seen Kiwi Farmers say or imply that the mid-2000s were an era of "world peace and unity" multiple times and it never stops blowing my mind. If you live in any NATO country, your nation was involved in two huge foreign wars in 2005 that cost trillions of dollars and tens of thousands of lives.

Just say what you mean: "I'm a Zoomer who was an oblivious child at the time and see the mid 2000s through rose-tinted glasses."

When I saw some bits of gameplay I was really taken aback. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't play it just from what I saw.

There is a subset of people who want to say they've played the well known classics like resident evil, silent hill, and dino crisis but can only play modern game that hold your hand like a kindergarten teacher. There's a well documented trend of people constantly claiming there love of silent hill 2 and resident evil 2 without ever playing them because "oh there just so clunky, erm the tank controls are just too clunky and dated for my fragile widdle hands" and thats if they've even tried them at all.
Silent Hill 2 original release had an option to turn tank controls off right in the settings. It should be common sense to go into a game's settings to see what's in there. Silent Hill 2 didn't need a remake, just a remaster that wasn't based on an unfinished alpha build.

Wanting != enjoying. Familiarity is the easy path through a person's defenses. The neurons fired and now you're wired. Who cares that the game bought to scratch the itch isn't doing it? Not them. Maybe you're aware enough to avoid this cheap trap. Your dollar is worth as much as those who are not so aware. They saved a bundle by making the same game for the 11th time.
It is a cause of as well as a result from modern games sucking ass.

I enjoyed resident evil 4 on gamecube. Instead of replaying it with the tech of the time, I can give it another go many years later with an updated style. People younger than myself who weren't around or interested back then might enjoy this remake and also get to see why RE4 was considered so great back in the day. Certain narratives, such as typical horror games, happen to lend themselves to this style of gameplay - hence why Silent Hill 2 is similar, hence why people feel Dino Crisis, a survival horror game, would work well with the same gameplay framework. I don't really see the issue that is essentially "Genres exist" and "Some people prefer one genre over others".

Maybe they mean on a personal level? It felt like it was peace and unity in so much as people weren't at each others throats all the time. You could say you didn't like a political figure or have no interest in pop culture slop without it being brought up to HR?

If they play the remake they are clearly playing a bastardized version of re4 that doesn't feel nearly as close as what it felt at its release.
