What movie did you see recently?

Star Trek: First Contact. It's interesting that Riker(Jonathan Frakes) himself had directed the film and I really enjoyed how they added in a survival horror vibe to the film as the Enterprise being taken over by the borg. It was interesting to see the normally rational Picard start to allow his vendetta towards the borg cloud his judgement and become something like captain ahab. I like it.

I recently got the remastered Blu Ray of Phantasm since it was a hidden gem of the horror genre during the 70s-80s boom. Are any of the sequels worth it?

If you skip the second you won't miss anything, though there's not anything you are missing if you just jump to Ravager, really.

I got my hands on a bluray of Forbidden Planet. My god this movie is a letdown. It really feels like they just want to spout technobabble to show how advanced future tech is, and it takes an hour for something to really happen. It's cool seeing a young Leslie Nielson in a serious role, but I guess I was hoping for more of a B movie rather than a drier Proto-Star Trek.

I watched Pulse this evening; Japanese horror film. Had some genuinely creepy scenes. People start disappearing left and right when a programmer kills himself after completing an assignment for work. It's a horror film but it's also a social commentary on loneliness and isolation which is prevelant in Japan; right after the chap in the first scene offs himself his colleagues seem largely unaffected and resume daily life as though he was never there.

The supernatural occurences in the film are very metaphorical. People affected by the phenomenon literally fade into inky (and absolutely terrifying) shadows as their loneliness and despair takes ahold of them. The colour red is also prevelant in many scenes.

We also learn later in the film that
the "ghosts" that have been appearing on computer screens are not actual ghosts, but lonely living people wandering around and staring into their webcams.

One gripe I had is with the appearence of one of the main characters - he sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the cast because it's plain to see by his clothes, hair and jewellery that he's a J-pop star. I don't know what band he's from, but they really, really wanted to make it obvious.

I just watched Good Time and I'm honestly perplexed. I didn't expect to live in a world where Robert fucking Pattinson deserves to win an oscar, but here we are, he absolutely does. What a performance and what a fantastic movie. There's one scene near the end that messed me up a lot, I usually stomach things very well but this scene got me pretty good.

Recommended. Might just be my favorite movie of the year.

I watched “Step up 2 the streets” again.
It’s got a special place in my heart, after knee surgery my tv was stuck on some movie channel and they showed that movie constantly.

There’s this one really good part where Briana Evigan is baring her midriff and dancing really skillfully.

I just watched Frost, an Icelandic horror film that's shot like The Blair Witch Project. The story centres around a research team based on a drlling station near the Arctic and five members of the team suddenly go missing one night.

I personally didn't find it to be scary, but there's a twist at the end that compelled me to go back and rewatch some scenes.

The clues are kind of obvious upon reviewing; like with Pulse there's a use of the colour red which basically points gigantic neon signs at the cause of the disappearences.

Watched the original Red Dawn yesterday. Man, that movie tries so hard to be macho and the logistics of WWIII are completely laughable. Also watched the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Currently watching Dirty Harry.

justice league. movie was alright actually. imo better than dawn of justice. cgi superman was disturbing though

Saw Justice League yesterday. Probably one of the most nothing films I've seen in a while.

It wasn't bad in any way, but I felt like I was zoning out for half of it.

Watched Justice League.
Okay, it was not the Avengers or felt as bombastic, but I don't get what was THAT bad about it.
Like I could have done without Barry Allen who came off as autistic as Sheldon Cooper, but otherwise it was okay.
I say that Phase 1 of the Avengers has worse/duller movies in it (Hulk e.g.) than this one is overall.

It's Alive! Old '70s movie about a mutant baby that goes on a killing spree immediately after being born (the mother recovered waaay too quickly after squeezing out an 11lb, clawed abomination) leaving it's victims with PG-rated ketchup smears on their necks.

The father character quickly goes from compassionate, excited dad to stone-cold asshole who wants the creature dead and it's of no relation to him, dammnit! In the final scenes of the film he does a 180-turn out of nowhere and decides he doesn't want to kill the fanged monkey baby he shot in the previous scene and tries to protect it from the armed cops.

The mother, after the trauma she's been through is pretty neglected and unsurprisingly starts to lose it. She secretly lets Fanged Monkey Baby into the house and it plays all sorts of havoc with Papa's psyche in what are admittedly some tense scenes for a film about a rampaging mutant infant.

There also seem to be to be some anti-birth control undertones present, though at the beginning of the film several dad characters were sitting in the hospital waiting room discussing the increasing levels of pollution and chemicals in everyday products and yadda-yadda.

It's as silly as it sounds and was a good way to spend my evening while I munched on pizza. There's two sequels but I'm pretty satisfied with having watched the first one.

Thor: Ragnarok. It gave me some good chuckles and was a nice waste of a few hours :)
Yeah, it was pretty funny and absolutely an eye candy, though I wasn't exactly ad the edge of my seat watching it. While overall I think it was better than both its predecessors, I think the previous Thor movies were a little better at making you care for what happens with the characters. Despite the apocalyptic odds, I never really felt a strong sense of peril or excitement.

The original Magnificent 7. I've been wanting to see this for a long time, and this desire had been kicked up a notch after seeing the remake (spits. Fuck that ending) in theaters last year. The original is kinda caught in the middle of the remake and the source material, Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa. As such, it really builds up to this big, chaotic battle at the end like the remake whereas Samurai was a war of attrition. Not as flashy as the remake, but it had the right heart and used the right ending (though not as beautifully handled as the source material's). Yul Brynner is fucking awesome and really felt like an American Kambei to me.

So: Seven Samurai (9/10) > Original Magnificent 7 (7.5/10) > Remake (5/10)

Maybe sometime I should get around to watching Samurai Seven. I remember that being on Razer all the time before it became MTV2, and from what I saw it was a pretty good anime.
