Q: I've been a total fucking loser who let's microsoft raw dawg my data with zir microhard OS for essentially my whole life, and now I'm looking to turn my life around and move on to a more based OS that isn't designed around deathgripping my balls every time I want to use the internet to call faggots faggots. Considering this, what OS can you schizochads recommend to me that runs well and doesn't have spyware built into it that makes my cheap ass low end's RAM look more cooked than a vietnamese femboys ancestry.

Solution
  • Linux Mint if you want something simple.
  • Ubuntu if you like the memes.
  • Arch if you are a masochist.
  • Debian if you are a minimalist.
  • Fedora if you need to work with Redhad Enterprise Linux and don't want to pay the premium for your development or software being used.
  • OpenSUSE if you are a German.
  • GNUnix if you are a RMS hipster.
  • Nix if you love software packaging organisation and are a hipster.
Seriously though, Just use Linux Mint and pick Cinnamon for the desktop (it should ask you when you install it if you want Cinnamon or others). Cinnamon looks 80% like Window7.

Also everything is different in Linux compared to Windows, so don't expect to be comfortable until you get used to how things are done...
I like KDE Neon. It's built off a stable long term Ubuntu base with a bleeding edge KDE desktop environment on top. KDE is miles above every other Linux desktop environment and will give you the most pleasant experience coming from windows. It also has a lot of windows power user style customizations if you're autistic like that. I've been running the same desktop environment for 10 years now without any major changes and it always just works as long as I don't go too long between updates.

how much linux slop do you know? the answer depends on how much time you have to blow on debugging and whether youre capable...

Ive tried mint and Manjaro, theyre fine, debian is for people who need to run really legacy shit, ubuntu is for normies who know nothing... heard nice things about Pop OS and Endeavour...
just get rid of pulse audio first thing first, whatever you do get rid of that shit it sucks so bad.

Also everything is different in Linux compared to Windows, so don't expect to be comfortable until you get used to how things are done. There is no registry. All the commands you are used to will be different. Much of the software will be different too. GIMP, Firefox, Chrome, and VLC are the same.

Linux Mint was my initial choice too, and it was pretty easy. You will have to reinstall it every 4 years or so when a new major version is released and the old one stops being maintained.
