What prevent's you from doing/being something you desire? - Parents, religion, the law?

The law. Turns out that what I consider to be treasure hunting is what other people would call "grave robbing", or "breaking and entering", or "theft".

Is it really so wrong that I just want some shiny jewelry and objects for my home?

To practice the spiritual tradition I follow, I must meditate at a minimum 90 minutes a day, and it's so boring. A lot of the clergy may be corrupt, there are a lot of scandals, and our second highest ranking monk, responsible for a great number of disciples worldwide, recently declared he was possibly born unfit to serve in a position that he was born into, which is comparable to the Pope suddenly declaring that he doesn't personally see any benefit from prayer. To make things even weirder, Buddha said that all the Buddhist teachings would eventually disappear from the Earth, because everything here is impermanent, so no matter what we do we can only delay the inevitability of all our traditions being forgotten. Curiously, the Christian Bible contains a similar prediction, something about how a time will come when people will seek the Words of the Father, but not find them...

Anyway, so yeah, things are sucking pretty hard right now in a great deal of Buddhist lineages. Every one of us believes in karma but so few are practicing it. When I became a Buddhist I stopped picking on lolcows, I still browse occasionally but I stopped posting here for a long time. Many Buddhists now, though, they act like 4channers. They speak in memes and so on. The older generations are really unaware of it in general: they tend to avoid the internet. So we have a strange situation where the really qualified teachers don't come online much, but their students mostly do. So you end up with situations where wholly unqualified people like myself are trying to help on the internet, because we are the only people in our lineages who grew up online before becoming Buddhists. We live in very strange times. I tried to explain these things to a few of my teachers, but they do not understand any of this and don't want to, so...

Since you bothered to read my venting, here's a picture that's said to be helpful for clearing heavy negative karma and preventing particularly unpleasant rebirths. Most kiwis probably need all the help they can get in that aspect of the scenario.

Also, the primary colors that make up the autism rainbow spectrum are called the "Dhyani Buddhas" in Tibetan Buddhism. So the autism colors are literal Buddhas. They look like this:

You can understand how our traditionalist teachers would not be able to understand the internet's sense of humor.

General anxiety, uncertainty, unexpected problems that put a dent into my finances and bad spending habits.

But hey, all of those things only prevent you from doing what you want if you let them. Don't give up guys!

Unfortunately, I cannot steal liposuctioned fat to turn into oil to sell to the military for a variety of reasons, some criminal, some logistical, and some logical.

It's seriously the biggest fucking scam imaginable.

Sucks to be you. I have had precisely zero student loan debt. Undergrad was scholarships and grad was paid with cold, hard American cash.

On topic:

I am but one man and not charismatic enough to topple the system.

Same as anyone else, I don't hydrate often enough and I should really get more fruit in my diet.
