What should be the purpose of humanity, according to major philosophers? What should be the end game?

If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? -- Jesus Christ, Matthew 16:24-26

I've always been partial to the Nietzschean view that a civilization may only exist to create a few great men who will change the world, and once their work is done it will regress and degenerate until it is eaten alive by external or internal forces, and change into something else or simply vanish. The ultimate goal of humanity is to play this out over and over again from smaller stages to larger stages, pretty much.

the ultimate culmination of the process of evolution on Earth is to create something that will either transcend and physically escape it, or totally annihilate and redefine it
