Those sites appear and disappear constantly and it's hard to keep up. I'm talking about short term hosting, just so you can show holiday pictures to your friends or share a 5GB movie for a single download. Currently I use:
For images: postimages.org - because it's simple enough, doesn't have ads (I think), you can copy direct links and max file size is 32MB for free users. Has a very simple layout and supports generation of thmbnail galleries.
For video clips: dailymotion.com and catbox.moe - the former isn't too bad if you can't use Youtube (like me), but it does have DMCA bots. The latter doesn't require an account, but on the other hand the max file size is just 200MB.
For files in general: pixeldrain.com - unaccessed files get deleted after 120 days (very generous), max file size is 20GB, bandwidth limit is 6GB/day and is calculated dynamically. It supports prepaid plans, so you can pay 1$/1TB for instance. Really damn good, especially when you compare it with garbage like Mediafire (deletion after 24h) or WeTransfer (2GB max file size).
