What the heck is DuckDuckGo? - I noticed it's the browser my mom uses on her phone.

The ads on tv say that it's supposedly all about privacy and stuff, which reminds me of those other alternative browsers that are popular 'round here. I don't remember DuckDuckGo getting mentioned on KF. Maybe I'm just not observant. But what's the dealio with it? Is it actually true and honest? Do you have experience with it?

Not sure about privacy. I started using it like a decade ago because google is trash for researching anything beyond pop culture. It's gotten worse over time, but back then if I was looking for academic research instead of scrolling pages of google results DDG would normally have what I was looking for on the first page, and wasn't bloated with advertised results.

its definitely better than google since i can get kiwifarms to show up in searches but it is a far cry from what it used to be I wouldnt reccomend it unless your using it on a phone since its phone ui is really good and not bloated (tho this may change)
your best bet is to just use searx and search multiple engines since there isnt a single good one out there

It’s only marginally better than most other search engines. Google has a better picture database so searching for memes works better there. Overall search engine competition is abysmal in the modern age.

DDG browser isn’t very good, it’s gui is too minimalistic and you have to go through a menu to find your bookmarks. It’s buggy too.
