What things do you obsess about?

One thing I probably obsess with is gaming. I play everyday or almost everyday

My hair. Making sure it's clean, mostly. Hate having greasy hair, drives me insane.

Whatever geeky focus I have at the moment. Currently D&D, Pathfinder and to a lesser extent Warhammer 40k.

Urgh, I have so many obsessions.

Obviously, Christory and this forum. Don't get me wrong, I don't hang on every word OPL says or get a hard-on about communicating with him,, like Waterhead. But there's a reason I'm here, along with lots of other people. It's because Chris is funny, for better or worse, and I like seeing what he's up to.

Secondly, early to mid-20th century history. i majored in international relations in college, but my passion has always been WWI-interwar-WWII history. The science of warfare has always fascinated me, particularly in a transitional period like the 1930s. I studied abroad to write a thesis regarding war crimes recognition, specifically Japan's actions in the Asian theater from 1936-1945. It inspired me enough to develop a love for pan-Asian culture and to marry into a Filipino family, many members of which have helped feed my interest by providing familial antecedents. I additionally spent three years deployed to South Korea when I was in the military, which additionally fueled this interest. I once toured a former Japanese political prison with my fiance; she found it strange, but I was in my element there. I spent way too much on souvenirs at the gift shop.

Third, old action figures. I grew up pretty much as an only child. My brother wasn't born until 1995, a full 13 years after I entered into the world, screaming and covered in bile. As such, I often had to entertain myself. I developed a love for Transformers action figures, like Chris-Chan. Unlike Chris, I learned how to resell them for a profit. It's a a hobby. A hobby that sometimes gives me money.

And finally, astronomy. I don't understand astronomy at all, but I'm astounded by it. I can spend hours on the internet reading amazing things about the size of stars or the gravitational pull of black holes or the properties of pulsars--and I don't understand a word, but I still think it's fuck-mazing. Astronomy really makes me feel small . . . but at the same time, it makes me realize how lucky I am to exist at all. The universe is truly a wondrous place.

Cars and animation mostly. Though I am a fairly big fan of Transformers.

I also used to be rather keen on Lego as well. But I've sadly outgrown that part of my life.

Question: Who's the best Conehead?

We talkin' Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet right?

If so, Thrust. I like his color scheme (seriously, I don't think i could ever see a jet painted blue/tan and all white and not laugh) and the fact that he's got a more... "amusing" personality than his cohorts (All boast and no follow-though? That remind anyone of Chris? :alog:).

History, Anime, Comic Books, Movies, Music, Books, I love learning about other countries, and watching foreign movies, especially Bollywood, and Japanese monster movies of course. Oh yeah I have a big fascination with cult leaders and dictators.

I'm really happy when TIME or National Geographic publish stuff about ancient human history. I saw a magazine from NG dedicated to the biggest empires over history in the store today, eeeeeeeee. Gonna collect as many as I can.

Oh man, National Geographic. Now THAT's something I used to obsess about. I remember all I really wanted for my birthday last year was a subscription to National Geographic. Last time I was at the store, though, the only magazine I could find a copy of that interested me was Mental Floss.

Lets see....

Lovecraft, rifftrax and mst3k, cooking and making homemade bread/sausages/cakes/literally anything i can, martial arts (wing chun especially), horror in general from movies to books to games to creepypastas, grimdark stuff (i.e. berserk, game of thrones, etc), tolkein, alcohol (i consider myself a neophyte connoisseur in the most pretentious way possible), martial arts, cormac mccarthy (hense my name), stephen king, sfdebris, classic zombie movies, shooting, creative writing, DIY, and shitty z/b movies

I found myself for about a week obsessed with that movie "we need to talk about Kevin" with Tilda Swinton. That movie was so upsetting, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was mad at the dad in the film, for letting Kevin get away with shit for years, when Tilda the mom knew Kevin was fucked up and needed help. Kevin ruined tildas life.

I'm also obsessed with environmentally sustainable living, and it accompanies my obsession with environmental studies. Among other things, I recycle, use reusable bags, love shopping at natural grocery stores, buy organic food when possible, use botanically-derived cosmetics, and shun petrochemicals. I'm quite the granola girl.

We have a recycling program, but it's been the subject of lots of controversy around town. Still use it. I'm weaning myself off of using plastic bottles and aluminum cans, I just intend on using glasses these days. We don't have any natural grocery stores like Whole Foods around here. All we have is H-E-B, and we buy our groceries there because all the local markets were shut down at some point, and honestly, fuck Walmart. Nothing's good about the place at all. I'd buy organic if we had the money (which we don't). The only organic thing we buy in my house is ears of corn for 62 cents each, and I love them. I... use soap? I don't know, I'm not the one in charge of purchasing toiletries (or anything for that matter). I love driving pick ups, so... I really do wish more funding went into research for alternative fuel sources. I really just put up with gasoline. It's something I need. As for petrochemicals, I don't really keep track of that, but I don't think there's any petroleum based products in this house. Granola is the absolute best. At one point, my dad found out they sold it with chocolate (or you could put your own in), and it tasted amazing, so granola with chocolate and milk was our breakfast and desert for three years straight. Don't know why we stopped buying it... I hear flax or whatever it's called is pretty good.

A common petroleum derived chemical is sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate. It's found in stuff like shampoos, soaps, and toothpastes. It causes the product to foam up when in contact with water, but despite all those bubbles it doesn't really aid in cleansing. However, SLS does make the skin more permeable to other endocrine disrupting and cancer causing petrochemicals.

Probably should have added "In real life", but hey it's not like I'm dissing Skywarp's color scheme.

AUGH YEAH AUGH YEAH AUGH YEAH

I don't know if I could say I really obsess about much. But I probably know more than most laymen about airplanes and watercraft.

Not quite true. SLS is a decent detergent, and its increase in skin permeability is due to the same effect as any other soap: it removes oils, including the natural skin oils that reduce permeability. It's also most commonly derived from coconut and palm oil.

hah, I just remembered when I was five, when my mom would read me the comics every day, I was obsessed with the comic "Rose is Rose", with the baby Pasquale. I even named one of my dolls Pasquale. He was a Campbells Soup boy. I based most of my imaginary friends when I was four on comic strip characters.

I also had a crazy Where's Waldo obsession when the books were really popular when I was 8. I had both Waldo and Wenda dolls. I still have them here, for some reason they missed the storage unit.

OH, and my american girl doll obsession when I was 10. I had the Kirsten doll.
