If you don't mind me asking, will you do some of the other listed options after the Toby Fox thread?

I need that history of /v/ masterpost.

All of these are good/serviceable, Rewrites you can probably just do later if no one really cares about that. I would love to see the /v/ history because I think it would be good to see how it went from funny offtopic shitposting, to abhorrent unironic BLACKED shitposting.

Side note, does tumblr really care about retro games that much? I know you talked about some of them with mischief makers in the tumblr files thread but never seemed that big to me.

Without going into too much detail and sounding like a broken record, a fringe group of retro game fans and blogs formed on Tumblr in the early-to-mid 2010s. Some of them came from /v/, some of them came from YouChew, some of them cut their teeth on Tumblr, outright. And from there, a different kind of culture formed around retro games that was different from the culture fostered by Gen X content creators like TGWTG and ScrewAttack. This group and their vibes focused more on the cutsey, whimsical, and "Japanese" aspects of retro games, sharing Gif sets, showcasing sprite art, and then that was followed up with fandoms forming around these niche games. Previously, when say, ScrewAttack, covered a "weird and obscure thing", they'd always look at it through the "ScrewAttack" lens, if that makes sense.

I think if there's one major effect of this "Tumblrization" of retro gaming I can think of at the top of my head, it's that this shift marked the point when Japanese box art of games started to be favored over western box art.

I used to lurk on KnowYourMeme sometimes when I was younger so I'm interested at what a KnowYourMeme Community Thread would look like. Since OP has a different project voted on, could someone with more knowledge on it hopefully start a thread sometime?
If anyone else could make any of these other threads so I don't have to, that would actually be appreciated. I'd still find a way to contribute, at least.

I could give it a shot since I did love to lurk and even interacted with people there during its golden age, but my main problem with KYM is that I have no idea how I would format it properly.

I can't exactly do a community watch, since like I said previously: KYM is more dead than Something Awful and Gamefaqs, so all of the content I would talk about woud be stuff from 5 years ago or more.

The website is so dead as a matter of fact that even the most basic of features like the search function, being able to view galleries and even displaying profile comments are broken beyond repair. (which would also make any research incredible hard, but I could power through it anyway).

I can do a lil history visit inspired by the Tumblr files thread, I just don't know if people would really care about it too much, since KYM didn't really influence the overall internet as much as Tumblr, and I don't think there has been any noteworthy users that had a huge internet presence besides maybe Don (the owner of the website). It would be more like a general internet history without a lot of the Lolcow-adjacent stuff.

...

Eh you know what, it's worth a shot, I still see some YouTuber essays refer to this site in [CURRENT YEAR], so it's not entirely irrelevant.

Expect something on this next weekend

Ahh, KYM. I used to lurk there back during its heyday checking out the weekly upvoted image gallery. I can't really add anything more than what Metallic Blood has already written, so I'd figure I'd mention some notable (& former) users of the site that I could remember off the top of my head.

Epyc Wynn - An attention seeking neanderthal
Poochyena - Antifaggot
Hotsky - Commie
No!! - Mentally ill and terminally online turbofag
L Boy - Autismo meltdown over people not liking twitter

Nowadays, I treat the place like a dilapidated zoo.

Same here, I actually just really liked how organized KYM was compared to most other meme websites of the time, which made for sharing memes way easier than having to lurk on ifunny/funnyjunk with a vague tag and images that didn't fit your search criteria.

I will definetly mention some of the names you posted here in the thread, with some other choices:

Mistress Fortune - a well respected user... who's known to fetishpost body inflation and vore, has uploaded over 2000 images (also became trans to no one's surprise)
Emperor Palpitoad - a well disliked user for commenting "I don't get it" in 90% of images (top comment explains well), he became an inside joke within the site (and surprisingly even got outside attention), eventually got banned for trolling too close to the sun.
Terry Jones - porn artist who made an account because people kept posting his art without his consent, some people love him for his art, and other people hate him for being a prick. Also doubleposts his art 12 TIMES in a row (scroll down)
Jack the Dipper - a confirmed autist and the guy who carried the "Expand Dong in its early years", honestly he's one of my fav users of the website, he even archived all the images he used on his comments and forum posts cuz of the imgur policy change... I have no idea WHY exactly, but his autism inspires me.
LezHuarez - A famous troll who loved to piss off the brony crowd by posting Cringy MLP art, disgusting fetish (like the MLP characters being kidnapped), and also pictures of cringe MLP fans, he was also antisemtic in a place that wasn't known for its edginess

(My problem with some of these banned users is that for some forsaken reason, KYM keeps their comments/images on, but you can't access their account to see their posts, you just have to pray that the search engine guides you somewhere).

Not EVERY user will be on the thread's OP, but I feel like most of these people (and some more) will go well there.

Also I don't want to really just focus on talking about specific users and call it day, since there's a few other things I'd love to talk about, like the site updates breaking features more and more, reddit bots spamming image galleries from their own subreddits into KYM, the NSFW Civil War of 2017 (if weebs should keep posting half-naked anime chicks on a meme website or not), some of the forum contests (and a few dramas that they brewed), and a few slapfights that aren't user specific.

I just have to basically organize all of this information in a presentable way without sounding like a total schizo lol.

Both Vinluv and TVB used to be KYM users back in the day before they jumped ship over here. I'd also look into Kenetic Kups, he was a massive politisperg that joined in the mid 2010s and helped poison the site's culture.

I don't know what all that other bullshit is but the Sanic fandom is a very deep well of highly retarded individuals that deserves an effortpost
