Ok, so after a thorough investigation of this website, I believe there is a solution to the problem of creating DM chains. Here it is:
Create a thread
Instead of sending private messages, and then adding people later to the conversation, you can just create a thread on the topic and then @ people later.
For example:
Let's say want to discuss the finer points of cheese, and I feel that Joshua Connor Moon has some insight that would constructively add to the conversation, I would make the following post on a relevant thread.
See, now I don't run the risk of getting banned for trying to have a conversation. Not only that, Null can leave it to the site jannies to handle any issues that might arise, instead of having to sweep up DM chains personally.
Win win all around.
